We moved to NJ (well, bought in NJ) in July 04. Before that we were in apts in NJ for 2 yrs. We don't know anyone in our neighborhood besides our neighbors (who are all older). Anyone made friends?

Re: New homeowners.....have you made friends?
Once the weather is nicer, go for walks around the block in evenings an in the weekends - your bound to meet people who are doing work outside. Unless you are proactive, they won't come to you.

Yes! But only our next-door neighbors so far. One one side we have a young couple (newlyweds, only a few years older than us) and on the other side their tenant is our age. We are not outside much because it is winter, when summer comes I am hoping to meet more people

Re: New homeowners.....have you made friends?
We are very friendly with our immediate surrounding neighbors, some of them are our age and some of them have lived here since this neighborhood was built in 1960! They are all nice and we were fortunate that they were the ones to come over and welcome us to the neighborhood. We did move in in the summer though and everyone was out. We also did major work on our house as soon as we got the keys to it and I think that helped most of them to come to us since they were curious as to what we would be doing!
Sometimes you need to go to them. We were lucky but I know most neighborhoods are not like this one. When the weather gets warmer you'll have more opportunity to meet them when people are outside more.

We've met everyone on the block (unfortunately b/c our neighbor drove her car into our kitchen last year)...we don't like her very much b/c she hasn't been nice about her accident! We love our neighbor on the other side and talk to her whenever we see her (we borrow things, etc.). We chat with two of the neighbors across the street too. The rest are just casual hellos!

Not really
So far we haven't really fit in. We say hi to the people next door on both sides (both older) and the three directly across (closer in age to us) but I wouldn't call us friends. DH talks to them more than me. The guys seem to bond easier. We are finding it very hard to meet people. We hope as we have a family and our children get older - it will be a better chance for us to get involved in the community and neighborhood and meet more people.

Re: New homeowners.....have you made friends?
Nope...I hardly know my neighbors. Actually, I just recently met one of my neighbors a few weeks ago and we've lived here for 8 months now. My immediate neighbors are all older than us and retired.
I'm hoping that once the warmer weather comes things will get a little friendlier around here...
And, also the fact that I just started a part time job I'm hoping to meet some people from the neighborhood.
I find it's difficult now to make friends in a new neighborhood unless you have children who go to school...because I see all the parents with their children at the bus stops talking to each other...but, I don't know any of them...because I have no kids.

OMG she drove into your kitchen!!
We moved in 2 weeks ago and have met nobody. But it's freezing out so hopefully when it gets warmer we will.

Re: New homeowners.....have you made friends?
Yeah but it took awhile. Neighbors on either side of us we are friendly too (both quite older). Our neighbors across teh street we have gotten close too - we go out to dinner with occassionally or have them over. Its nice...and they have kids so it means alot that we can talk to them and hang out. HOwever, we have another neighbor and his wife with kids who we find to be nice and friendly but has never offered to do something with us. It takes time though...it took us an the other couple almost two years before we got together....

Same here.
We've been in our home for over 3 years and haven't really become close with any of our neighbors. They're all very nice, but they already have established relationships with other neighbors b/c of their children.
We're by far the youngest and we're the only ones without children. Even the new people who have moved into the neighborhood already have 2-3 kids.
