Re: New Orleans

I went a few years ago, but I totally enjoyed -

- swamp tour, didn't see any gators but we got some really great recommendations for dinner from the guide.

- beignets at Cafe du Monde

- you have to have a Hurricane at Pat O'Briens

- walking tour of the Garden District. I loved seeing the big homes (we saw the Real World house and Anne Rice's) and the cemetery but we weren't allowed in since parts of it is sinking.

I can't remember any of the restaurants - sorry but it was a great city and I totally enjoyed it!

You're going to have a great time.

Not sure where you're staying but we stayed at a guest house, and it was so cool, our hosts had happy hours set up for us every afternoon around 5pm. We would sit in the courtyard and drink and have cheese and they would tell us stories.

I would like to go to New Orleans in May, June, or July. Anyone know how hot it is there around those times?

Re: New Orleans

yes do the naschez (SP??) dinner cruise. So worth it! Goes up the river, very enjoyable.

We actually did it for free, by go to one of those 30-min tours of new orleans for a timeshare. We of course did not buy, but we got the tickets we were promised.

I heard you have to book the cruise way in advance.

Re: New Orleans

I was there around Memorial day in 2002 and the weather was nice, not overly hot but pleasent. Definately do a ghost or vampire tour. It was great. My friends and I did a walking ghost tour and you see parts of the city you normally would'nt see and hear amazing stories. You also stop for cocktails The swamp tour we didn't like as much, but try to eat at some little places in town. We eat at the Gumbo shop, vey authentic food but not so commercialized. Have fun, it was a blast. Oh yeah definitely hit Pat O' Brians!

Re: New Orleans

I was there last presidents day week and the weather was cool - we HAD to buy a sweat shirt.

Check online for mardi gras parades that weekend. There's a dog (in costume!) parade I have been trying to catch for two years and keep missing by a weekend.

Re: New Orleans

We had a hard time finding an affordable but good breakfast place... but we finally found one and went there for the remainder of our trip... the locals eat there (cops, etc.)...

Not sure of the name though, but I know how to get there.

Walk down Bourbon street (image you are coming from Canal street)... Ramada will be on your left hand side. Make a left at Ramada, make a right on the next block (so you are parallel to Bourbon). Keep walking a few blocks (2 to 4 blocks). There is a little restaurant on the corner on your left hand side (at the end of the block), where you walk up a couple of steps to go in. They make yummy pancakes, egss and bisquits!!!

Re: New Orleans

we were just there in November. It is a great place to visit. Just remember New Orleans is all about food

I would try Red Fish Grille and definately go to Commander's palace.

I took a tour of the plantations which I enjoyed and a new orleans city tour. There is a gray line tour place that has many tours to choose from.

I also took a Cajun cooking class at the Cajun cooking school. It was so much fun!!! and it was only 15 dollars... (it was a lunch thing) I did it at the riverwalk.

THere is the aquarium, zoo and imaz theater too

Oh there is also Harrah's to go to for gambling.

Bourbon Street is fun to go to but that really isn't my thing.

We stayed in the french quarter so everything is in walking distance. very convenient. We only took a cab once to COmmander's palace.

we tool jet blue down there it was the cheapest we thought (150 round trip). Have fun.....
