DH & I were thinking about going to New Orleans around Halloween time.
If you have ever been....is it the type of city where you need a car to get around? or can we do without? we really want to see the French Quarter...if we stay in another area to save some money on a hotel, is it close enough to walk to the French Quarter? and one more question! are there any direct flights to New Orleans or do you HAVE to stop and transfer along the way?
Thanks so much!

Re: New Orleans Help!
We LOVE New Orleans. Try to stay in the French Quarter if possible. Everything is walking distance, and it is the safest part of the town. If not, we stayed at the W hotel, which is right across the street from Harrahs Casino, which was a 5 minute walk outside the French Quarter. We had a direct flight, just can not remember if we flew Jet Blue or Southwest. It is an awesome town..you will have a great time!!

crashing...
i was in nola last halloween. you may want to keep in mind that voodoofest is also usually around that time so if you are a big music person, it's perfect. agree with the w that's across from harrah's. it's a short walk to the quarters. you can get direct flights, i think we flew down on delta and got a pretty good deal. love, love, love nola - such a great city.
