New to Board: Bridesmaid/color help

Hiiii Im new to the board and very excited about planning my May of '09 wedding.

So we have only been engaged about a month and I have already booked my recep site at the Westbury Manor. Also we booked the church. I have gone to a showcase already also. Alot of people are saying 'You dont have to be moving so quickly, you have time'etc...But I have a million ideas in my head and I want to get moving. Also I get super busy so Im usually pulled in a millin diff directions, so when I have free time I like to get on the ball...

Anyway sorry to bable...here is my question: I am having a difficult time deciding on a color for my bridesmaid dresses/ color theme for my wedding. How did you all decide? Im being pulled in many different directions and cant zero in on something Im loving. Has anyone felt like this...and if so how did you make your choices?

Thank you in advance!

If you are getting married in the spring choose light colors. Like Lavendar, maybe a light green. Depends what you like! My Future Sister in Law got married in March of 98 and she had all her Bridemaids in Teal!

Good Luck!!!

for a spring wedding you can pick pretty light colors! but any color looks great in a wedding!

Re: New to Board: Bridesmaid/color help

I honestly had nooo clue.. i would like this or that but never loved anything enough to be in 'my wedding'. Then i found my florsit and we picked our centerpieces.... but the flowers i want to use only came in 4 colors (yellow, pink, green and purple) and we are using dogwoodin the CP also... so from that i pick my colors (light pink and a chocolate brown) and now i'm totally happy with everything... (our favors are a donoation to the breast cancer foundation, which the color for breast cancer is a light pink)... so it all fits!!! It will come to you one way or another. When you think to much about it thats when u go crazy!!!

P.S- i'm just like you.. i'm having a april 09 wedding and EVERYTHING is booked!!! haha

I always knew I wanted blue BM dresses. That was the only part of my wedding I had planned out since I was a little girl

I ended up letting my girls pick out their dresses (they all are wearing the same thing) provided that it came in blue (which they actually liked as well).

As for colors, I'm still not 100% sure -- trying to figure out what will look good with the blue.

I am having a fall wedding and wanted to use the warm colors. I recommend dress shopping first because they style of your dress wil influence the style of the BM dresses. I went back and forth between color schemes and once I began shopping for BM dresses and seeing them in person I really got a feel for the scheme I wanted.

Also look to your room you are booked in so there isn't a clash of colors. But generally rooms are pretty neutral.

I don't think there are any rules for BM colors anymore. I feel like people are using any colors they want year round. I am using red in July just b/c I like the way red looks in pictures. I do feel that I am going to have a hard time finding the perfect shade of red that I want. That is why I do think sometimes it is best to find the dress you like then see what colors it comes in and decide from there! Good luck!

Re: New to Board: Bridesmaid/color help

I was always a fan of pink, but I'm pretty sure my bridal party would've hated pink dresses. Once I picked my November 2008 wedding date, I kind of figured pink wouldn't be the best color for late fall. I was leaning towards doing black cause I one of my friends did it at her November wedding, and it really looked great on all the girls. Then as I was looking in a bridal magazine, I saw this really pretty dress by Forever Yours in Chocolate Brown with a latte sash. I don't know what it was, but those 2 colors together on the models made the dress look so pretty, and I was like that's it - I want that dress in those colors. Honestly, if I would've been getting some other dress, I probably wouldn't have gone the chocolate brown route. But because I saw it in a magazine and liked it, I basically planned around that. So now I'm basically doing a fall themed type wedding.

I would start iwth the ideas taht you have.

Start with something you know absolutely that you want.

Whether its flowers, style dress or a particular color that stands out.

For me I KNEW I wanted pink peonies so i started with that. Then I looked for the BM dress that I liked, the style in general and worked from there. We did not have a 'theme' necessarily, everything was grey, silver and pink. No theme.

If there is a particular dress you are attracted to look at the different colors offered. You dont necessarily have to do bright or light colors just b/c its spring. there really arent any rules for this much anymore.

Good Luck

I changed my mind a bunch of times. I origionally wanted baby blue or sage green, but the color made my sister look like a sick ghost.. so we went with spruce green instead. I love the pink/green combo. So my colors kind of found me.

Welcome to the boards and good luck!

Re: New to Board: Bridesmaid/color help

I think you should look through a ton of different magazines, from bridal, to regular design/decor. Look at the photos that 'strike' you and then another day, go back and try to evaluate exactly what strikes you about the photo. Is it the colors that they use and HOW they use the colors? Is it the striking contrast between 2 styles (traditional/contemporary), etc? Unless you have a definite 'favorite or signature' color, you might find yourself regretting your choice if you make it so early in your decision making process. IMO the whole tiffany blue/brown thing is on it's way out....but what I'm seeing a lot more of now is tiffany blue with red in a lot of magazines.

Re: New to Board: Bridesmaid/color help

Congrats and welcome to the board!

Keep in mind the dresses don't always come in the color you want, and keep in mind not every color looks good on everyone. I wanted originally a medium or cornflower blue for my BM dresses but the dress that looked the best on everyone came in pastel blue or navy blue. The pastel blue was too pale and the navy was almost black, so I went with heather (light purple) which came out perfect anyway.

I think that shade of purple would work well for spring...it worked well for my late summer wedding. Check out pics in my professional wedding pics album.

Congratulations fellow WM bride. It took me a while to pick out colors but I just kept looking at pics online and I was drawn to some colors/styles more then others. Dont worry about people thinking you're rushing, it will be here before you know it.

I just tried to think of colors that I like. I love pink...but am not a fan of pink dresses so I decided to do pink flowers and went with brown dresses. Love the pink and brown combo!!!

Also love the brown/blue combo and sage.
