Hello! I got engaged before Thanksgiving but just began official wedding planning this week. I have read some topics on the site before as a bridesmaid helping my friends, but it is weird to be to actually be posting here - for MY wedding!
I am leaning toward a March 2008 wedding - quite possibly the 15th - and hoping to book a hall on the water. I think that to get the most out of a waterview in March I would prefer a daytime wedding, and then I would throw some sort of after party for our friends and anyone else interested in extending the celebration, but I keep getting negative comments from friends about daytime weddings and it is bringing me down.
So far I have been to see Lombardi's on the Sound, which I loved, and am going to see Huntington Harbor Club and Chateau la Mer. Any other hall recommendations or tips for a daytime wedding and/or dealing with negative comments would be greatly appreciated!

Congrats and Welcome!!! Make your way over to the 2008 boards! There are already a lot of Megans over there (me being one). I booked Chateau La Mer on the spot. I absolutely loved it!

if you go to the harbor house, you'll absolutely love it! the only reason why we didnt go with them was because they quoted us too much money! we're going with the riviera and it was 40 bucks a person less!

Re: New to LIW
Congratulations on your engagement...I had a daytime wedding this past July at Lombardi's on the Sound and it was AMAZING...
We were having a hard time choosing between Sat Day and Fri Night (neither of which I wanted but pretty much our only option since we only had a 10 month engagement) and as soon as I walked in there everything totally fell into place...
We also had a big after party at my mom's house and our guests stayed and partied with us until 1AM so we just had twice as long to celebrate ....in the end we are so happy that we did it this way and wouldn't change a thing!!!
Don't listen to anyone else, this day is about you and your FH and if you make it what you want it will turn out perfectly. If you have any questions about Lombardi's on the Sound or daytime weddings or anything else, FM me!!!

Thank you all so much for your advice and encouragement! I am making appointments to see a number of the places you recommended. My fiance actually has been really great about telling me not to let the comments get me down as well. You are all right - it isn't about them - it is about us!
