How many of you are opening your gifts at the reception and how many are not? My parents think it's rude not to open the gifts, but i don't really want to.

Re: New to this.. But have a ?
I am not because honestly you only have but so much time at the hall or venue and I am sure my guests would rather enjoy the time they have then watch me and my FH open gifts. I guess it depends on the type of wedding you are having. I know in the Mid-west it is expected but not in the NE. Do what you want its your day.

You are not going to have time to truly enjoy your wedding if you open your presents. You're actually suppose to do that once you get home with ur DH.

I am not going to. I don;t want to loose anything and I think that if I were to start opening gifts there I would have a greater chance of that happening.

I don't think ppl bring presents (boxed) to reception...usually. They come at wedding shower. At least I hope so...I want the check type of gift.

Re: New to this.. But have a ?
In NY, guests normally do not bring physical presents (like actual items) as gifts to the reception. They bring a card with a check as a gift. However, since you are having out of town guests, they may bring physical gifts since that may be the norm where they are from.
In this case, I have heard of the bride and groom doing a brunch the next morning and opening gifts then, so that the guests can see you open the gifts. But I have never heard of the B&G opening the gifts AT the reception - I, as a guest, would find that kinda rude (like, oh the B&G couldn't wait to open that til later or tomorrow or whatever?).

I've never seen gifts opened at a reception, at least not in the north east. Most gifts are envelopes. There really isn't enough time to do so, IMO.

Re: New to this.. But have a ?
I have never been to a wedding where the couple does open the gifts. We aren't going to - ours will actually be waiting until we get back from the HM, we are going from the reception to the airport, so my sister will be bringing the gifts to our house for us.
