Hi, I just found and joined this site - just got engaged and am trying to plan the wedding for summer of 07. I am in the process of choosing a location and am choosing between a few (Westbury Manor, Swan Club, a couple others). I am from NYC but out of town for grad school and I can only fly in for 2 days so I was wondering if anyone has advice on what I should look at/ questions to ask to quickly make a decision, or if anyone has opinions about these places? Thank you so much!!

Congrats and Welcome. Try to book all your reception locations on one day. Most of the ones that you mentioned i think are fairly close to one another. There are also many vendors in the area that you could meet with on the same days. Also, what you should do is attend a long island bridal expo. Chateau Braind has them frequently with all the local long island vendors, that way you can maybe meet with many vendors at once and weed out the ones you do not like versus the ones that you do. The bridal extravaganza might be a good place to start if you can still sign up.

Re: New to this site - question
I would call, make appts to all the halls you are interested in on the same day if possible(schedule about 1 and a half hrs in between each) Also, have a couple of dates in mind when you call to see if they have the dates available... I am getting married at Westbury manor in July 2007 & my banquet manager told me last night (I was there for dinner) that they are all booked up for the entire year 2007 -weekends..... I don't know if he was exaggerating or if it was true..but call to double check.

Re: New to this site - question
I agree-try and squeeze them into one day. My FH and I went to so many halls and realized we could look at the menus at home ( which saved a LOT of time). Congratulations and good luck!

Re: New to this site - question
To narrow down the choices, I would first ask if they have rooms that will accomodate the number of guests you think you'll have. If it's a non-traditional number (mine was less than 100 so I was shut out of a lot of places) then it might be a good idea. That way, you're not spending that day visiting places that may not even have a room the right size for you.
Also, try to group the appointments by area and leave 30 minutes more than you think you'll need. I visited 3 places in one day and wound up being late for the last one, even though I thought I had budgeted enough time to look around the place and travel time!
Good luck with it!! Bring a pad and pen with you and make a pro/con list - trust me, you won't remember everything if you're visiting that many in one day!
Congratulations!
