NEW - Watermill Brides

Hi girls. Has anyone been to a wedding in the Bostonian Room? We are having our wedding in that room because our wedding is small. When we went to the WM for their wedding showcase, my FH and I panicked when we went back in the room.....it sort of looked smaller than we thought. They said it holds up to 80 people, which is about our guest list. We are paying for this ourselves, so we wanted to keep it small and intimate. Also FH thought dance floor was also small. I spoke w/one of the managers and he said it's too late to pick another room. I'm sure it will be nice, but I just don't want it to be too crowded. HELP!!

Also, we having our ceremony there too (downstairs in the Vanderbilt), and it's a day wedding (cheaper!!)

We originally were going to book that room for July 3rd, 2005. A few problems arose in our particular situation:

1. I seriously think the room is too small for a wedding of 80. What about dancing and my family are big dancers. It's good for a Christening, etc. Maybe a wedding of 50-60 but my personal opinion knowing my family is 80 is too much.

2. One of FH's friend's bands originally offered to play and there would be no room for them.

3. I was also going to be the third bride that day. Ceremony would be at 11 am but then I was informed that I wouldn't be able to take pics outside until at least 1:30 or 2 pm. in the middle of my reception. I couldn't take pics before the ceremony as I wanted.

I knew that was not do-able. I was also worried about being the third wedding there that day. Handling two weddings is one thing but three is a lot. Also I was firm about not missing my cocktail hour for pictures never mind my reception.

My BM knew I was upset, really upset and he understood how there were too many things I'd have to give up so he asked us how we felt about Monday July 4th, same time but in the Astor Room.

1. Because it's a daytime wedding on July 4th it really wouldn't inconvenience my local guests, it wasn't like I was asking them to stay in Suffolk until midnight and have to go to work in the city the next day. All parents are retired, FH's two sisters live OOS and are teachers (not an issue).

2. He upgraded us to the AStor Room and lowered the minimum for that roombecause it's a daytime wedding on a Monday and many brides wouldn't even consider it.

3. Because we upgraded the room we upgraded the Bridal suite. I can have my pictures outside, the cocktail hour is either outside or the restaurant (instead of the small room on the other side of the Bostonian) and my ceremony, incase of inclement weather is downstairs.

4. We also upgraded to the next menu.

5. Again, because it's a Monday morning wedding the pp only went up by a few dollars compared to the less comprehensive menu in the Bostonian room on Sunday. The exact same wedding on for the bride booked on July 2 (Saturday night), same room, same menu is twice the price because it's a SAturday night. Good old supply and demand.

I am able to be the first bride in that day, can take all of my pictures early, have two beautiful ceremony sites, have a bigger room with a lowered minimum and a much lower ppp. For all of those reasons it was Monday for me. I would never be able to afford the same wedding on a Saturday night. Well, I could but I'd be naked, hungry and be selling my teeth and blood...LOL.

If it's workable for you and your needs can you change to a less desirable date which would lower the total cost of your reception?

Sorry so long but I wanted to really spell out my decision given my personal needs.

FM me if you want details or if you need help.

I was also booked for that room. I did love that room but The reason I changed it was that i was so upset with the dance floor. I knew it wouldn't be big enough for everyone to dance, I was planning on having 75 people. so i made my budget bigger, am able to invite more people and i got the astor room with 125 min. I dont think there going to let you have another room if your only having 80 people, because the other rooms have higher minimums.
