New Years in Times Square

New Years in Times Square

Were getting married on long island Dec 31. Were anticipating our reception ending between 6-8 and were thinking about bringing the wedding party (some from out of town) to experience the ball drop in NYC. does anyone know the details of the ball drop... is it going to be impossible to get in & out of there?

I believe they close the whole area around it before 8PM. Not 100% sure.

Here is the offical site

NYE in Times Square

BTW if you can pull it off I think it would be so memorable for your wedding and your guests

it is an absolute disaster that day. unless you are there in the early afternoon you dont get a good spot, you cant leave, otherwise people take your spot, there are no bathrooms and people are stoooopid drunk.

after the wedding you wont want to travel into the city also. cause the train schedule is a little off as well.

i think it is a great idea and will be memorable for your guests but its a huge pita! i went in 2001 and it was a mess! we got there around 9pm thinking we would be ok to get in and we werent...we had to sneak around police barricades to get close (and by close i mean just in viewing distance - we were by no means close). if you are going with a large group of people it will be hard unless you go early in the day.

it would be a good experience for your guest esp if they've never been there. but based on my experience there, i wouldn't recommend it. my friends and I got there about 2 hours before the ball dropped and had to leave to use the bathroom (back to penn) and didn't even bother going back b/c it was too crowded! plus the train ride home is full of drunks - i'll pass on that!

Hmm, just be careful that your guests would actually want to do that. It's CROWDED and once you are there, you are stuck there. I don't even think they let you leave to use the bathrooms. I heard people wear diapers there when they go. You couldn't pay me to go to Times Square on NYE.

ITA with this. sorry it's a great idea though if people are willing to 'rough it'

I host a party in my office overlooking Times Square ever year and unless you have an inside location, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. It does get crazy and you have to get there extremely early. They close off the streets to the public at 3pm.

Here is info on street closures:
7th Ave. & Broadway between 43rd & 49th will probably be closed down starting around 3 pm and that the cross streets (moving south to north) will probably be closed beginning around 5pm. Some train station entrances may be closed as crowd conditions require. After 7pm, the N&R train station at 49th & 7th will be closed until after midnight. Trains may also bypass some stations depending on how the crowds build.

I think its a great idea but I'm not sure how you would be able to do this.
