New Zealand Honeymoon

So New Zealand was my dream honeymoon destination, and I decided that it was out of the question, because the plane tickets would be so expensive. However, since then, my retired godfather, who served Delta for many years, decided to let me know that he could get me a major discount on plane tickets for our honeymoon.

Even though we're getting married the weekend of President's Day and are teachers (will have off the following week), and even though that is their summer down there, it wouldn't really pay off to travel all the way there (and deal with jet lag, etc.) just to stay for a few days... so we're looking into going in the summer.

I was wondering if anyone on here has any experience with traveling there or knows anyone who does who could provide me with any advice about how long and where to stay/etc. I'm still not sure if we can afford it or not. Just trying to figure things out.

oh, FYI: we're huge Xena/Hercules fans (which were filmed there, along with most fantasy shows/movies)

You're going to LOVE Aus!!! I spent a month there and it was the time of my life!

AND NZ is amazing from what i heard so if your HM works out you're going to have a blast!

I studied abroad in Auckland for 6 months during college! I love the whole country! You do need at least 10 days though. On the North Island I would go to Taupo and Rotoroa and you def have to see the South Island. Queenstown is where a l ot of the cool adventure stuff is located. We also hiked the Franz Josef glacier and went to Christchurch (we went to the Cadbury factory!)
