Newbie!!

Hello everyone!! I have been snooping around for ideas on this website for about two weeks. Today I finally decided to join and formally introduce myself. My name is Tanisha and my estimated wedding date is July 24, 2011. I just started looking at wedding venues, 2 to be exact, but is determined to pick a venue in 3 weeks. I look forward to sharing my experiences with everyone and getting advice.

Re: Newbie!!

So far, I've looked at Jericho Terrace and Chateau La Mer. I loved Chateau La Mer but feel its necessary to look at a few more places before I finalize.

mellyrose, I see that you are having your wedding at the Queens County Farm Museum. I was thinking about looking into that place to get out of the traditional wedding hall scene. What do you think of it there? What made you choose it?

My mom and FH planned a birthday dinner for me on 3/27/09. My birthday is 3/30 and they usually have a dinner for me every year so I thought nothing of it. After singing happy birthday and blowing out the candles, I saw my FH on his knee with the ring. It was sooo sweet and all the family was there.

I love it there. We wanted to get married in a barn - somewhere rustic and a place our guests and their children (we are having at least a dozen young children) could have a lot of fun. There were other places hours away in the Hudson Valley, but this is right in our backyard and it's more perfect than I could ask for.

Some things to know - I am a big DIY'er and you really have to either have a lot of $$ for a wedding coordinator, or be willing to do a lot yourself to get married at the Farm. The fee they charge you is just for use of the site, plus tables and chairs. Nothing comes with it. You have to bring your own caterer (though their preferred caterer is awesome, and almost definitely who we are using!), rentals, etc and everything else needs to be brought in. If you aren't careful, it starts adding up very quickly!

But to be honest, we didn't even look at ANY other venues, and we were so insistent upon having the wedding there, that we adjusted the date that we have had dead set on forever, because they hold an annual event there and it wasn't available.

Let me know if you want to know anything else. If you want to visit them, you don't need an appointment or anything. Just go anytime between 11-4 on a weekday and they can help you. HTH!
