Newbie Needs Help!!

Hi Ladies,

I've been lurking here for a while and am so impressed by the whole site and all of you. My fiance and I are trying to plan a Fall '04 wedding. Woohoo!
The problem is that he's in the Navy (currently stationed overseas) and will only be on LI for about 10 days to meet with the priest and look at a few reception locations. What do I do first? The church or the halls and how did you all coordinate getting available dates and times for each. It seems like a bit of a hassle.
Thanks so much!

Hi sweetie!! Congrats!!!

I would DEF do the big stuff while he is here.. you could always fill him in and 'conference' him in on the other stuff.. I would start mapping out which halls you are interested in and go and do that.. Do you have a church in mind? perhaps one near one of your home towns?

And as far as the other vendors, the way FH ad I did it was go on either the evenings or the weekends..

Thanks!!

I think I'll only involve him on the date and the location. Just so he knows where to show up. Haha!

Seriously, we already think that we'd like to get married in my family's church. Is it better to have the tentative reception site and date in mind before going to the church or vice versa?

Congrats and welcome to the boads.

Do you have any halls in mind. You can get a head start and narrow down the search by calling them, getting prices and see their availability. This way you will have an idea of where you want to go and where you may not want to go.

What we did was we picked a date then called the church to see if they were available on the date which they were. Then made an appointment to see the decon about 3 weeks later. In the 3 weeks we called halls for their availability and got prices (some wouldnt give it over the phone) and narrowed down to where we wanted to go. This helped save time because we didnt have to go to places that were not in our budget and waste ours and their times.

Since your FI is in the Navy explain to the vendors that wont give you prices over the phone that he is in the Navy and on a short leave so you cant make it in just to get a price, you would really like to have an idea of what they charge to help in your search. They may be a little understanding and give you a price over the phone.

Just start making phone calls to people and when you see your FI have a plan of action and agenda of things you want to accomplish. Try not to do so much in one day as it gets overwhelming and tiring. If you want to see 3 halls one day and 3 halls the next great and just map it out. Hall A is here, Hall B is 10 minutes away, Hall C is 20 minutes away. (I hope that makes sense)

Have fun and enjoy.
