newly engaged

hello. i recently got engaged to my boyfriend of 4 1/2 yrs. we are very eager to start planning our wedding. i would love some suggestions as to which LI reception sites you would recommend cheking out. we are interested in atlantis marine world and would love to hear what anyone has to say about it, especially about rates per person! we are looking to invite about 110 people. we would like a site that we can have the ceromony and reception at. we are planning a july 07 wedding, how far in advance should we check out and book a location? any suggestions on where to start with the planning are much appreciated!
thanks, lacey

Re: newly engaged

Welcome to the board and congrats on your engagement!!!!

It's seems that (at least around here) it's never to early to start planning the wedding. Sometimes you can lock in great rates (especially the hall) if you book early. My wedding is in Nov 06 and we've booked the hall and chuch.

I checked out
1. Swan Club
2. Floral Terrace
3. Jericho Terrace
4. Watermill
5. East Wind
6. Westbury Manor
7. Giorgio's
8. Majestic Gardens

Also Check out Wedding Sites and Service. It has a lot of helpful infomation.

Good Luck and Congrats again!

I second Weddingsitesandservices.com. That was my bible during that time.

Congrats and welcome. As stated above it is never too early. I planned my july wedding 11 months in advance but I had to be very flexible with dates.

I love the aquariam idea. Also try the Vanderbilt Mansion in Oakdale. It is great for your guest count. George Washington Manor is great. Or how about a vineyard? Rapheals does the catering for you but most of the other ones require you to rent everything and find a caterer. But it is a beautiful idea!

Congrats on your egagement! Although you have some time to go, it's never to early to start! I would start looking at ceremony & reception places, and book the one you love, the rest can wait a bit.
Happy planning!!

Congrats!!

A friend of mine is being married at Atlantis Marine World ... she's paying a lot per head (around $110) but I think it is a Saturday night wedding.

Some good sites I found for all the 'details' are

ultimatewedding.com
jeanmessentials.com

have fun planning!!

Re: newly engaged

thanks fot the replies! i am going to look into many of the suggested sites! we've been talking it over, and we are actually thinking of bumping the wedding up a year! i start grad school sept of 06 and i am not sure i can handle the stress of that AND planning a wedding. a new consideration is having our wedding on a cruise ship. anyone look into this route? we were thinking of cheking out the ncl dawn that departs from nyc. they have the ceromony and reception while at port before ship departs. you can have both sailing and nonsailing guests attend. i would cut the guest list by quite a few people to do this, but i think it might be worth it as far as costs go. i would love to hear what people have to think about cruise weddings! anyone ever attend one?
thanks again!

Welcome and congrats!

As for halls and booking, lots of girls do it way in advance. However, I got very lucky and booked my hall about 6 months before the wedding date and got a great deal because we took a cancelled date. But booking now means locking in 2005 rates for whatever year you're getting married in.
I recommend my hall, Jericho Terrace...there is a thread on here with a lot of info. Of course I'm biased , but there are TONS of amazingly beautiful halls in all price ranges.

Best wishes and happy planning!

My boss met her now husband on a cruise ship so when they were planning their wedding they wanted to get married on a cruise ship. She did not like the prospects...most of the ships leave out of nj. She ended up chartering a boat out of Flushing Meadows Park and had her wedding there. She said it was great. So did everyone else at my office who went to the wedding. They sailed around Manhattan. If you want more info let me know and I will ask her. HTH And Congrats on getting engaged.
