My name is Tara and my fiancé and I got engaged on Wednesday night! We are planning to have the wedding in 2010! I was wondering if you could help me with what my first step should be. Do you book the church first? Or should I first find the reception location first?
OH! So overwhelming, but very exciting!
Thanks!

Re: Newly Engaged!
welcome and congrats!!!
I would start looking at reception halls to get an idea of what you might want.
i went looking at RH's and then when I found one that I loved, I went to the Church to make sure the date was open. I booked the church and the next day went and booked the RH.

Re: Newly Engaged!
def need to look for halls and book the church around the same time. Find a place you love then see if the church is available for that day and then try to book both within a day of the other
CONGRATS!!!!! and happy planning

Re: Newly Engaged!
Congrats Tara and welcome!!! I looked at both the church and the reception hall first, at around the same time...because you have to make sure your date is open at both places and the times of each work out.

Re: Newly Engaged!
Congrats Tara!
I booked the RH first (but didn't tell the church that!) booked the church about a month later.
I looked for my RH first, and then everything fell into place!

Welcome and Congrats!!!
They say you should book the church first but I think most of us booked the RH first than the church.

Re: Newly Engaged!
congrats!!!
we first researched RHs online to see what was in our budget.. then we visited a few with an approximate date in mind. we called the church to see if those dates were available (there were only a few 2010 weddings booked so far) so we booked the RH and let the church know of our date!

Re: Newly Engaged!
Ah i see you are getting married at St. Joe's. I would be a a St. Joe's bride also. I normally go to Our Lady of Lourdes, but i love the long isle at St. Joe's!

Welcome and Congrats!!
I booked my church first before we even started to look at RH's. To me my church was more important than where we were going to have the reception.

Hello Tara and welcome, I would look at RH first to get an idea of what you want but book them around the same time.

Re: Newly Engaged!
Congrats & Welcome!! Start looking at RHs..you'll find you get a lot of different prices for different times of the year so that might sway your choice of dates and hallls

Re: Newly Engaged!
Welcome Congrats ...I would book the most important to you. For example if you are willing to part with a reception hall b/c it doesn't have the same date as the church then book the church first, and vice versa! But you know what you are planning well in advance so don't stress to much!

Re: Newly Engaged!
Congrats! Welcome to a fun and addicting site. I think the first thing you should do is look at RH. Most churches hold more than one wedding a day so they are more flexible than a RH. Before putting your deposit down, give the church a call to make sure they have that time available. Good luck!
