Congratulations. Don't sign anything on the spot and NEGOTIATE.

This. And make sure you know what's included and what's not. Table linens, chair covers, these are things you don't want to have to find out you need to budget for later.

Also WEEE! Congratulations and welcome! The ladies here are far kinder and more helpful than any other sites I've found. :)

Congrats! And yes, negotiate negotiate negotiate! Also make a list of things that are important to you, and make those a priority in your budget. Everything else can be fit around it.

Congrats and welcome! Ask all the questions! Find out what their plans for every part of the day are, what exactly is included in their cost (food, desserts, linens, tables, service, etc).

If you find something thats included at one venue, and it's not included in one you like more - tell them! They might just throw it in. Definitely negotiate!

I used this list as reference (definitely take out some depending on where and how much you love the place) http://www.herecomestheguide.com/wedding-party-ideas/detail/questions-to-ask-your-wedding-venue

Re: newly engaged, need venue advice

EVERYTHING the other ladies have said!!! we Negotiated a TON of things lol.

Also, we had to make sure to ask for some gluten free guests, and also rates for children !

Re: newly engaged, need venue advice

Just always be very clear on exactly what is and what is not included at your venue. Sometimes after you add everything in and average it out, it comes out to being more than a venue you may write off because their price per plate was higher than you were looking to spend.

Make sure you know how many people you are required to have to hold your room- and definitely ask about any other fees besides price per person- extra tax/tip added, valet cost if any, ceremony cost if you're having it there, price for vendors, etc..
