Newlyweds and Brides with Aisle Runners: How do you keep it from slipping and getting dirty?

ETA: How did you keep your aisle runner from slipping? Did it really work?

So I was thinking about getting a personalized (white) aisle runner, but now I am having second thoughts. The runner is going to be about $200 (my church has a policy only allowing non-slip runners) and there is no way that I want to see everyone shoeprints all over it.

I am planning to have the runner rolled out right before i come down the aisle, so the entrance is not a problem. But what about after the ceremony? I am planning to do a receiving line and I don't know how it would work logistically if I had everyone ushered out the side aisle. Do you think that could still work with the receiving line?

If I do it this way, would I have to put Tulle on all the center pews to keep people from leaving that way?

Hmm! I would say Yes to the Tulle on the center aisle so people don't try to exit that way. Secondly is there anyway that right when you are ready to leave the church an usher or a family member could roll it up for you and put in their car or the limo.

I thought about this, but then the quests won't see the monogram....

Any more advice?

So you want to keep the runner after the wedding? Is this why you're concerned about it getting dirty?

Hmmn, I haven't decided what to do with it afterwards. Do most people just throw them away?

That's why I asked. I would have it rolled out before you come in (as most people do) and then who cares if there are foot prints after the ceremony? I realize you're spending a lot of $$$ on it, but you're going to be so wrapped up in the receiving line and taking pix, getting to your limo to toast champagne, that you won't care if you have 3 inches of mud on your runner. That's why I asked.

DH and I got our aisle runner for free. It was a gift from an acquiantence friend from college who got married 2 years before we did. My friend forgot to bring this same aisle runner to their church for their own wedding, thus she pass it to us. It didn't bother me getting an unused aisle runner that belonged to another couple. DH and I were on a budget thus, every penny counts. We did not get it personalized with our names and date as no one will look at the details of the fabric of the aisle runner and your guests will have their eyes on your bridal party and mostly on the bride's gown and your face all day and night. At the end of the ceremony guests will be walking on it. If you prefer to imprint or personalize an aisle runner with your names and wedding date you should get and expensive one and not use it but keep it as a keepsake.

To keep our aisle runner from slipping we had our 2 GMs to use packing tape to secure it to the floor on the sides. We kept the tape and don't know what happen to the aisle runner. To each their own.

I think our aisle runner ended up thrown away. We kept the packing tape though. I could care less about that aisle runner because what can you do with it after the wedding is over? Create a throw pillow with the fabric afterwards? All eyes will be on the bride, bride's hair, make-up, and gown most of the day and night. I remember my 150 guests kept staring at me all day and night as people were just lurking at me. I mentioned it to my DH after our wedding several times even months later that people were staring at my face, my gown, my jewerly, etc. and his response: 'you're the bride Tina, people will be mesmerized by your gown, beauty, jewerly, personality, etc.'

IMO I wouldn't buy a runner - I think our limo company put ours out and it was fine.

I believe most limo companies for a wedding will provide one at no cost

Yeah most limo companies provide one. But my church will only let us use one if has no-slip backing. So I started looking for some online and all the ones I found were at least $150 and above. So I'm thinking about buying one, but then personalizing it myself. I'm still undecided about it. I love the way it looks, but it's alot of $$ for something that I'm just going to walk on. FH is okay with it though.

For those of you that put used tape. Did it really keep it from slipping? Maybe if I can show my church that it won't slip, they would let me use it?
