Any have any good recommendations for lodging in the Newport / Providence / (Cape Cod even) area?

I went to school in Providence and used to go to Newport a lot. But, we stayed just outside at the Motel 6. There are a ton of great b&b's in Newport proper but it's extremely expensive and they get booked quickly. When are you looking to go and how much $ are you looking to spend? I can probably help better with that info.

Oh and I need a smoking enviornment, I know A LOT of B&B's are non smoking.
ETA: not sure how much I want to spend ... not a ton but somewhere clean & nice.
