Newsday's Wedding Guide

Newsday's Wedding Guide

Today Newsday's wedding guide focused on 'green' weddings and showed eco friendly alternative weddings. I think there is a guy here on the 07 board that was interviewed and had his pic in the paper.

Anyway it was a good edition and a little blurb about how jackets, capes and shawls are going to be featured in the next line of dresses coming out. Which makes me a little sad because i had to pay extra to have a custom made balero jacket made for my strapless dress and now from what i am reading most of the dresses are coming with them in the fall!

Also had ideas on co-ed bach parties which is cool since that is what I am having. So take a look at today's newsday!

We haven't even opened up our newspaper yet. Just been running around all day and now i'll have to take a look.

I know what you mean though, i ordered my dress yesterday and paid for an extra 3 yards of fabric so I can have a jacket or shawl made up for me.

FH didn't like the idea of a co-ed bach party though, I mentioned something to him on Friday about that, and he was like NO WAY!!!

Re: Newsday's Wedding Guide

i would totally love to hang out with my FH during my bach party but i do not want to hang out with his best man lol
one of them is one of my best friends but the other is my FBIL and he makes me angry whenever i'm near him
i can just picture me getting hauled away in cuffs after a night of hanging out with him.

I loved the little ceramic cake you can get made after your wedding cake. I so want to do that.

Re: Newsday's Wedding Guide

A coworker actually just walked into my classroom to give it to me! That's funny. Towards the end, there is an adorable pic of two dogs in groom and bridal wear...I wish I had two dogs that I could dress up like that on our big day! There's no way we will have two dogs by then : ( Oh well....it's so cute though.

I see ads for bridal expos out east..does anyone know how I can find ones that are in Nassau County? I haven't been to one yet and would love to enter for a honeymoon...FSIL won one at an expo she went to...how lucky!!!

HEY THANKS JEN BTW!!!

Yeah I def want more info on how to 'green'-up my wedding!!! We're having an earth day wedding (a little early- 4/18) and I've already found an organic florist (Verbena Designs), we're getting married at Flowerfield so its kinda earthy, I'm doing plantable place cards and recycled tree-free invitations. I was considering doing an environmentally friendly favor but honestly I'm Italian and I don't think my family will get it LOL

I'm giving something that they can use and there's herbs and fruit painted on it so it sorta matches...LOL by some stretch of the imagination. Aside from serving all vegetarian (WHICH I AM NOOOOOOT DOING) what else can I do???

Also, how do I get in touch w/ the people at Newsday for that...I heard they were interested in people having green weddings....Laurie from LA Blossoms told me that....

I think she's starting to do organic stuff too as an FYI...

There are actually a lot of things you can do, it honestly depends on
a) how much time you have and
b) where your budget is.

Food-
talk to your caterer about supporting local food sources; consider doing organic and seasonal food.

Jewelry-
we're using GreenKarat for our rings, they use already above-ground gold for their rings. Mining, especially mining gold, is a really destructive process.

transportation-
try to do a wedding near public transportation. providing a bus cuts down emissions by cutting down the number of cars on the road. also encourage people to carpool and split car rentals.

registry-
support fair trade and environmentally friendly businesses with your registry.

here's our vendors page- have at it! basically, there's a way to do it and it's awesome that you're already doing so much! good on you!

aww, you guys are making me blush over here.

I'm on here b/c some awesome brides were extremely helpful. so the least I can do is return the favor (on what I know, anyway)

Re: Newsday's Wedding Guide

I have to be honest it sounds great - going to see if I can grab a copy somewhere.

Honestly I rarely have time to read the paper- last time I bought one was a few weeks ago when FH's parents announced our engagement in Newsday.
