Niagra Falls or Lake George

Anyone ever been to either of these places? Any feedback? Are they romantic places to go? We are thinking of going for a short mini vacation in April. THANKS

I've been to lake george and it is fantastic. I went in the summer and it was great. The lake is beautiful and it is a great place to go with friends or just FH.

Niagara Falls. THere is a hotel that overlooks the falls. Its beautiful. I read somewhere once that the falling water creats romantic feelings or something about ions.

Honestly, unless you plan on crossing the border, and going to Canada, forget Niagra Falls.. def go to Lake George!! It's wonderful there! also try and check out Saratoga..

I went to both places and loved them both. If you have never been to Niagra though I would recommend that. It was awesome and seeing the falls takes your breathe away!! We drove up through Toronto and then on the Niaga so we made a long weekend out of it. Great restaurants. We always camp at Lake George so we do that as our 'roughing it' trip every year and have a blast as there as well. Either place is a good choice.

I've been to Niagara falls plenty of times. I've always had a lot of fun, and I guess it is 'the honeymoon capital of the world' but I think it's cheesy. If you're looking for a fun time, in a verrry touristy area, then you'd like Niagara falls. Never been to Lake George, but I hear it's beautiful.

I have never been to Niagra, but I LOVE Lake George! It is one of my favorite places on Earth. It is a quaint little picturesque town! It is not exciting or trendy, just a couple of blocks of stores and restaurants. It is very family oriented. There are bars there, but they all die out or close by 2AM. The lake offers typical water sports, jet-skis, parasailing etc. There are beautiful mountain hikes with great views, outlet shopping and just an overall great vibe. I have been going there every year since I was a baby and plan to bring my own children there!

Edited to say: ooops, you are going in April, not much going on there then.
Have you considered Mohonk Mountain House?

I agree with EvenEdan, Mohonk is gorgeous, and it's a lot closer.

I've never been to Lake George, but I've been to Niagara Falls and it's beautiful!!! But, you have to stay on the Canada side, the American side pretty much s***ks!! From what I heard about Lake George, it's very similar and has lots of those wax museums and the falls are gorgeous, day and night!

I have been going to Lake george every year since i was really little.. i love it there, its so great... me and frank go whenever we get the chance, let me know if you have any questions!

I have been to both with my FI (the Falls twice, Lake George once). They are both romantic, but they are different trips. In April the Lake is going to be too cold to swim and do water sports in (we went in June one year and it was just starting to warm up). Lake George has a cute town, fun to walk around in, some good bars and it has some really nice places to eat-right on the water. I love it there, but I don't know if April is the best time to go.

The falls are incredible and really amazing to see-but it is a very commercial area. They do have gambling there if you're into that. Other than that, I didn't see it as a 'fun' kind of trip. It's become a draw to tourism with the shops all over. Don't get me wrong, it's still very romantic and they have some romantic places to eat.

For April, I would go with the falls, because going to a place with a lake is kind of pointless if you can't go swimming in the lake and most of the places don't open their pools until Memorial Day weekend. And I think overall the falls are more romantic. If you go with the falls you want to stay on the Canada side-that's where all the fun is. Get the Marriott hotel over looking the falls and make sure you get a room that has a window to the falls. You can hear the falls at night and it's so nice. IF you want more info about either FM me. I loved Lake George. try to get to thousand Islands and rent a boat. You can have a picnic on one of the little islands all by your self. It is so romantic.
