I keep having nightmares that my ring is gone or lost (in reality I have insurance thank god). Last night I had one and my family was telling me they never heard of a James and I was certinly not engaged to anybody. I woke up so upset this morning and decided to look at my ring under the magnifier our jewler gave us. I swear I see a tiny chip on my stone. Im freaking out. I have been engaged for one week and I chipped my stone? I am so careful with it. Im 95% sure it's chipped. I left FH a voice mail, even though he's going to kill me I can't keep things from him. Is it a fact that eventually everybodys stone gets a tiny ding in it? Or am I just very unlucky? I don't know what im going to do, Now that I know it's there I can't stop focusing on it.

Re: Nightmare about E-ring
I would seriously doubt that you chipped a diamond. Bring it to a jeweler, but diamond is extremely hard and almost impossible to break/chip. You're probably just being paranoid bc you keep dreaming about it. I would try to stop thinking about it.

I thought I heard its impossible to chip a diamond. Maybe do some research. But I doubt it. Bring it to the jeweler your FH bought it from.

totally not true that its impossible to chip a diamond. if your stone has any weak spot in it, you can chip it..
diamonds are strong but not indestructible..
bring it to a jeweler so they and you can look at it under the loop. if it is chipped... its a good thing you have insurance.. dont panic, and try not to get too upset. this is why it is smart to insure your ring!! anything can happen.

Re: Nightmare about E-ring
My mom is totally reckless with her ring and chipped it really bad while splitting logs in my backyard. Clearly no woman in their sane mind would wear their ring to split logs (or even split logs in the first place) But her ring is chipped badly so im sure it can happen. Maybe because I know about her ring it makes me paranoid about mine. Im starting to thing its just dirty.

Re: Nightmare about E-ring
i would bring it to a jeweler just in case. But my ring is already like, scratched in some places since i've gotten it in april. I probably put it through so much commuting on the subway every day, etc...
But it is a good thing you are insured just in case it really did chip

Diamonds can chip at it's weakest part most often the on the girdle if it is extremely thin. You just need to the right amount of force at the correct angle or even another diamond and it will chip. I am probably not making this any easier for you.But this is a grand misconception that this can never happen, just get some great insurance a a rider or independent and this should be fine. Your my mom is a gal after my own heart, I do almost everything with my ring on as well, but I was always a tomboy and ering can't change that! But god forbid this happens, your diamond can be fixed.

Re: Nightmare about E-ring
bring it to a jewler and see what they say. is it noticable without magnification? did you do anything where you think you could have chipped it?
i freaked out because i bent one of the prongs on my e-ring like 6months after we got engaged. we brought it to the jewler and he fixed it right away.

'09er here- research this on here. I remember an entire thread on chipping your diamonds. I remember girls saying that it is possible to do it even though people don't think that it is.
Try a search... HTH!

Re: Nightmare about E-ring
I feel alot better that im not the only one who has these nightmare and that my insurance should take care of it, should it really be chipped. FH wasn't mad at me thank god and he said we'll take care of it. I didn't even know if my insurance covers this because I just got the policy a week ago and the papers haven't come yet. FH assured me it does.

diamonds can chip, what i bet everyone else was talking about was that they can not be scratched with anything but another diamond. I would take it to the jewler but go to one you know and make sure they examine the ring in front of you and dont let them take it into a back room. I know a women who went to get her ring resized and the jewler switched the stone with a cubic zerconia and by the time she realized it years later the shop was out of business

This? Is my BIGGEST fear!! FH bought my rings at Zales, and the reason I won't have it sized is because they have to SEND IT AWAY.
However, I found out that the Zales at Smithhaven Mall has a jeweler on site, so that's where I'll go to get it sized.
