Casey will be 7 months this month. She will NOT stop nipping our hands. Doesn't matter - even if we put bitter apple spray, tap her on the nose, etc - will NOT listen. She also climbs all over the couch - and don't think we haven't tried discipling her, we definitely have - I don't know what else I can do - help! I don't mind if she sits or lays next to me on the couch but the climbing (on the arms and top!) has got to stop. She is a 50lb Golden not a 5 lb terrier! LOL.
Helpppppp

Re: Nipping and Jumping on the couch
What about a squirt bottle with water in it...every time you see her in the act, squirt her with it. It worked for our dogs...or, maybe it's time to call a trainer?

Re: Nipping and Jumping on the couch
We're starting Bama in obedience classes soon because he loves to run as fast as he can and then take a flying leap onto the couch, right onto my chest. He's about 46 lbs now so it's getting a little bit painful! He's also a counter surfer - last night he stole a packet of saltines off the kitchen counter and ate the whole thing, wrapper included!
Anyway, have you looked into obedience classes for Casey? And when she nips, do you really yell at her? It sounds mean, but you have to show her who's boss. DH and I would grab Bama and yell right in his face when he nipped, and then we'd ignore him. It didn't take him too long to figure out that nipping humans is bad.

The ONLY thing that worked for Chewie was shaking the can w/ coins when he did something we didn't want him to. He listens after that.

Re: Nipping and Jumping on the couch
Kathy - we took her to an 8 week Petsmart class...some things worked, some not...
Annie - SAME HERE!!! And I am so scared that when I get PG she will jump on my stomach
Karissa - been there done that LOL it scares her but not enough to make her stop all together.
The water doesn't work either...she bites it and thinks its amusing
Maybe I need to call a professional trainer

Re: Nipping and Jumping on the couch
Our trainer told us to keep Satchmo on his lead when he is inside so we can easily remove him from the couch if he gets up there. We also push the coffee table up against the couch so he can't get onto it.

Call the shelter you adopted her from. They will usually give you behavioral services for free or at a significant discount.
