ive received plenty of invitations from couple who have a house together or already living together and dont want 101 toasters and blenders for their wedding....usually these couple write in fine print at the very bottom of the wedding invitation 'No Boxed Gifts Please' in italics...
ive always than opted for giving them a nice some of cash, its understandable, however talking to my mom about it today actually..she said she thinks thats rude... ..i was just wondering what u girls feel about that?

Re: No Boxed Gifts please
I wouldn't mention gifts on the invitation at all. Outside of NY I've heard that its very common to give an actual gift and not $$ at a wedding. Some out of town friends were shocked at the amount of envelopes they saw at a recent wedding here on Long Island.

IMHO it is rude to mention gifts in any way shape or form on a wedding invitation.
I COMPLETELY agree.
FH and I live together, and we'd never dream of putting anything like that on our wedding invitations.

Re: No Boxed Gifts please
A gift is something that someone chooses to give, not something that is dictated by the recipient. No matter whether I recieve a large sum of cash from soneone, or another toaster, my response will be, 'thank you.'

Thank you for saying this. I don't mean to sound rude, but I'm tired of hearing people moan and complain about not getting gifts or not getting expensive enough gifts. It's NOT about the gifts, and we're not entitled to gifts!

I think it's rude too. Some people can't afford to give a whole lot of cash, if at all, so they get you something that could be used in the home instead!

Re: No Boxed Gifts please
that is so bad!! i would be so offended if i saw that and i ALWAYS give $$$ for a wedding, never a 'boxed' gift. . .
i guess its trying to say it in a 'nice way' BUT its pretty obvious what it means - i would put a whole bunch of stuffin a big gift bag and say: 'hey you said no BOXED gifts right?'
honestly if its that big of a deal just ask a few family members to pass on that they need the cash, i know my mom and FMIL make SURE that everyone knows that we are paying ( i think they are proud of us ) so cash would be useful. . . but ANY gift would be accepted and appreciated!!

Re: No Boxed Gifts please
I think it would be funny if someone gave them a gift that usually comes in a box, but just took it out of the box and wrapped it.

Re: No Boxed Gifts please
no gifts should be mentioned on an invitation. I can understand the mentality behind it, but its just not the right thing to do.

Re: No Boxed Gifts please
it happened to me (with different wording) and I thought it was rude, and was tempted to not only buy them a gift, but an ugly one at that...of course I didnt

Re: No Boxed Gifts please
I think it's rude!!! No one should dictate to you what type of gift you should give them.
