We do not want any giveaways....fog....lights.....just really good music done in a really classy style. I do not think want an MC either. I would prefer if the DJ could both. Any suggestions ladies????

I think any DJ can do what you are asking. You basically want no frills and straight music. I am sure that would be plenty cheaper and they would be glad to. Check out all the ones that are big on the boards, High Energy, Tomu Tunes, etc.

My DJ was amazing! I used DJ Glenn Passerelli, WJGP Sound, Port Jeff Glenn DJ'd my friend's wedding 4 years ago and I never forgot him - so nice, so low-key and played everything I wanted! I really wanted a band, DH wanted a DJ so I compromised - and I am glad I did! He was amazing! He never stopped playing, played a good mix of slow sonngs, dance music, oldies, etc! No flashing lights, no props - a class act from start to finish - he had people asking for his business card all night- FABULOUS. A few other ladies on this board are using him as well. Good luck!

I have to second High Energy his prices are great and he truly does what you want. We have used him for many family functions and I think he is great.

I think that Spin Around Sound might be a good choice for you. Their website specifically says 'no cheese!' Some of the folks on this site have had good things to say about them... do a 'search' for reviews!

Good luck with your decision!

Music by Michael.
No corny banners, no give aways.
I was VERY specific about that. I wanted only good music, clear and exact (computerized is what he offers) no scratching no 'DJ' mixing. I wanted good music. I find giveaways to not be my style. It seems rather cheesy compared to all the work I go through to make the event elegant. No sunglasses, no beaded necklaces, no hats. Fog is just expensive and silly for me. The lights with little filters that show stars, hearts, moons, squares, triangles and happy faces seem trival to me and again takes away from the effort I put into the wedding.
I made ALL this clear to Michael and he nailed it perfectly in our package. He has an online site to put music on and off your play or do not play lists. He's easy to work with. He's knowledgable and detail oriented. Im very happy I chose him. I've heard great reviews and Im confident in my choice.
Good Luck!

I am using Tommys Tunes for my wedding. They will do whatever you want. Most DJs will also do whatever you want. For my Engagement party I used Parties Alive...I had no mc,no giveaways, no cheesy songs, and their prices were very reasonable!

Thanks ladies. It is funny because I have spoken to a few DJ's and even though they say they will do just the basics....some (maybe just the ones I have met) have this 'cheesy' personality that I just do want to carry through to the reception. I am probably just worrying too much (what else is new ). I will give these suggestions a shot!

I hear you.. some are just slimy sounding.. Too much of a salesperson... pushing hard. Major turn off for me. I couldnt book someone for my music (big music fan here) who seemed to have his own agenda or seem to want to tell me he knew more about music than I do. yes, they've had more weddings, but this one wedding is mine, show respect to my wishes and at least explain to me HOW you know more and what they based their opinions on, not just 'well I've done weddings for 20 years' who cares? Weddings have changed in 20 years, prove you're up to the task of MY Wedding!
Good Luck.

Why don't you give Bravura a call. Speak to Tony. Their how business is based on NO CHEESE.
He was at a showcase and his whole proformace was stating how they dont... Throw favors at guest.. dont do the yo yo yo rap...no YMCA cheese... ANd they demonstrated how this is not what they are about but if you want them to add stuff like that they are more than willing. The are just a little more classy. Check out their website and see if you like what they offer. www.bravura.us
Any questions FM Me

I VOTE FOR GLENN!! He did my best friends wedding 6 years ago and remembered their actual wedding DATE....I'll give you my review when we get back....but he's such a nice guy...very down to earth and realistic.

Re: No 'cheese' DJ's...........
I felt the same way that you did about lights, giveaways, fog etc. My company pushed this thing called 'Dancing on a Cloud' on us . Let me just tell you -it basically looks like the dancefloor is up in smoke. It made some of my first dance pictures look CHEESY! Also if your dj on your wedding day is pushing the 'Meet and Greet' on you, I don't recommend it. It seemed to be annoying to my guests. The only reason it seemed that they did it in the first place is to get the guests on the dancefloor. After it was done they all left the dancefloor anyway. It basically reminded me of that game 7-up that they do for kids parties...very cheesy.

We are using Tommy's Tunes and they offer many different packages to fit what you are looking for. I have heard nothing but good things about them. Good luck!
