But here's the thing - I have no idea where to start!!
I am hoping to get married in Oct/Nov of 2013, so i don't have a ton of time to figure out where to start - which is why I'm asking the experts :)
I figure I need to book the venue first, but i don't know where to look for that either!! I want something different - I LOVE the Foundry in Long Island City but it's not big enough. I'm looking at around 150 guests. ANY help would be so VERY appreciated.
THANKS!

Re: No clue where to start!!!
congrats!!
if you are looking for something different, maybe check out the wineries, or a mansion -- the bourne mansion is amazing (im biased obviously, lol), or the woodlands, de seversky, the royalton, coindre hall, etc.

Welcome congrats and happy planning! You have plenty of time :). Mansions are different I also say floral terrace (biased) but there are country clubs, banquet hallseetc. You definitely need to visit a couple of each to decide what you like. Good luck!

I'd start with looking at halls once you get that out of the way you can start with other things I'd hurry because my moh/bff got engaged and went for Oct 2013 and lots of places were already booked up. that was back in August too.

Floral Terrace is great! I would have booked but the guarantee was 150ppl and I didn't want to set the min. so high. Otherwise I would have booked. You can try Cresthollow, the grounds are amazing.
Check out the Reception Guide on here (it's under the Planning tab) and get an idea of what you want your venue to have. That's what I did and that's how I found all of the venues on the water, which was a huge deal to me. It'll also give you a general idea for pricing for most places (even though you'll get the most accurate pricing from the venue).
Have fun! Venue was my favorite thing to shop around for! :)

I would start looking online at venues to get an idea of what you like & start making calls. A lot of places I looked at were booked for all of 2013 with the exception of some days in Nov. & Dec. Check out the North Ritz. THey are one wedding at a time & may be good for your guest list.

Congrats on your engagement. I got engaged New Year's Eve. Try out Fern N Decor (Fernndecor.com) in Hicksville. They helped me through a lot, and eased my nervousness.

Congrats on your engagement! the first thing we did was estimate a guest list and booked a hall. We are using the Watermill its so beautiful and right in our price range.
