Hi there! So I have a makeup artist that I loved after a trial at MAC. While she has agreed to makeup the day of- she said she does not need a deposit and has not sent a contract. I have had some trouble getting timely responses from her via email and this worries me that she may not be super reliable. At this point, though, I have had several hair/makeup trials and no one has come close to the work she did on my makeup.
I am an attorney so getting a contract is my natural inclination anyway, but I have not been in this position with any of my other vendors and am unsure how to go about moving forward either without a contract or with me initiating the contract. Since it is a small amount, I am not sure how much having a contract will improve the situation if she (knock on wood!!) didn't show up the day of. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this with any vendors and how they were able to resolve things/how it worked out? My wedding is only about 6 weeks away and I live out of state so at this point my only choices are to move forward with her or with another artist whose work I was less pleased with.
Thanks! (:

Definetely get a contract. If she plans on being there and she is responsible, she should have no problem agreeing to provide you with a contract.

I would get a contract. You can even write it yourself. Just let her known that she may not require one, but you feel the need to have a contract with every vendor. She should have no reason to protest.

No Contract?? Help!
Thanks for all of your input! After never getting a response to my email saying I wanted to get the contract taken care of - I wrote up a loose agreement with all the info/times/#s/$ etc. and sent it. Then never heard after a few days any response to that. I texted her to ask her if she'd gotten it- to which I got responses as if we'd never talked about the details at all (ie- what's the date; how many people).
After answering her questions for the millionth time she quoted me prices that were more than what I had in the emails and when I questioned her on it was told 'oh those prices were for the trial, day of is more.' Mind you- I'd already done a makeup trial at MAC and after never getting a portfolio from her said to forget it for a hair trial (which was priced exorbitantly high as it was).
So I told her that was more than she quoted me and that I couldn't ask my girls to spend that much but thanks anyway. And she responds 'Oh well if that's what I said I'll honor it that's only fair.'
As you could guess- I decided against her anyway. Too much flakiness/shadiness to have to worry about on the day of. The moral of the story is that obviously her lack of contract and deposit went more to her overall work ethic than I realized and it was good to push the issue since it brought this out for me to see!

No Contract?? Help!
Thanks! I actually was lucky while I was home (in live in CA, getting married on LI) to do a trial with Gina Marie (Hair Artistry by Gina Marie). She did a great job on my hair and makeup (and she gave me a contract to look over as soon as I finished the trial). So glad to cross it off the list! And excited to be so close to our wedding day!
