A girlfriend of mine is getting married on Sept 30. She was over yesturday and we were talking about the last minute things she was trying to get done.
She mentioned they weren't doing wedding favors because they think it's a waste of money. They thought about the last three weddings that they attended and if they remembered what the wedding favors were. They could only remember 2 out of three.
Do you think it's OK to bypass the favor idea? My FI and I were wanting to do favors, but maybe it IS a waste of money?
What are your thoughts on this?
Thanks girls!

Re: No Favors?
I think it is your wedding and if you are okay with it... then you go for it.
I will say one thing. You are right - 9 times out of 10 I can't recall the favor from whatever wedding... and I have forgotten more than one or two at the RH at weddings. But as much as people may not remember WHAT favor you gave... 9 times out of 10 they WILL notice if the favor is just NOT THERE.
I - personally - like favors. I have gotten so many useless ones over the years that i can't remember, don't need, broke, lost ... whatever... but it just was nice to get them. I still get a little excited when I go to a wedding and see the little wrapped gift waiting!
It isn't meant to be the GREATEST GIFT EVER... just a small token of your appreciation that the guests can take with them after they leave.
Favors have gotten better over the years too! Edibles and cute collectibles... things that reflect something about the couple and their lives.
Maybe you would consider a donation favor? Giving money to an organization that means a lot to you or FH in honor of your guests?
But... ultimately... as I said. Your wedding, your call!

Re: No Favors?
favors can be anything from just food... ex: sending ur guests home with chocolate dipped strawberries or a piece of wedding cake , something they will eat and forget, or something like a candle which will sit on a shelf, get lost, or eventually melt cuz they actually decided to use it.
Its your wedding you can do it or not...doesnt make a big difference i think. I think the BEST favor i received were beautiful refrigerator magnets that said 'Thank you for celebrating our day with us' ....sure i cant eat it, or use it, its just ON my fridge, but everytime i open it, i do glance at it...this couple got married 3 years ago...
if ur on a strict budget, ex out the favors ...
good luck!

Re: No Favors?
I am having problems w/ my mom about this. In the jewish religion, supposedly, you don't give favors. So my mom is saying not to do favors blah blah blah. I keep telling her that people will notice if they don't get one!!!!!!! You can do something simple without spending lots of money!

I totally agree with the donation idea. People don't even know how much you gave but they will like the gesture. This way you don't have to spend a ton of money on favors.

Re: No Favors?
The last wedding I went to did not have a favor. I didn't even notice. I think it's fine to bypass favors. At our wedding, we did a donation to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. I am a big fan of donation favors.

I think it is fine if you don't want to do them. We did chocolate truffles. Everyone likes chocolate but we did think about not doing them at all.

Re: No Favors?
The favor is just a nice touch. It's a way for the bride and groom to thank their guests for attending their special day.

we did donation favors- we gave a donation to the lance armstrong cancer fund. we gave each guest one of the yellow livestrong bracelets, so they had something to take home with them, too. i know a lot of groups now have those bracelets or something like that that you could give out as a token of the donation.... i felt SO good that the money we spent on favors went to good use, and not to something people would just stick in a drawer and forget about, or throw away. AND we still see a lot of our guests wearing the bracelets even more than a year later....

Re: No Favors?
i personally love favors - yeah i have gotten my share of bad favors like everyone else but i really think it is a little token of appreciation for your guests
i love the idea of having a donation and i am thinking of doing a donation to NAAR - an Autism society
BUT i will also be doing the big traditional Italian favor too - i know with the guests that I am inviting if there isnt even a small favor they will be offended - favors are a huge part of italian weddings
but it depends on your guests! if you feel they wouldnt miss them then you can cancel that expense!!
