got a few situations going on and i have a few questions and i know you ladies are full of good advice... so i got married on jan 16 and im working on my thank you cards now. we have yet to receive a few gifts- including one of the groomsman. i know hes very strapped for money so im not holding my breath. one friend has mentioned that he forgot to give us the card that night and said he would mail it, so still waiting... then there is a situation with dh's family. before the wedding we got a card in the mail for $500 from his aunt and uncle, card signed from just the 2 of them. very generous! but then all four of their kids came plus two guests, and NONE of them gave gifts or cards. and when i say 'kids' i mean the youngest is 25 and the oldest is 39. do you think the check was meant to cover ALL 8 of them?? so confused.. they all got seperate invitations. should i be sending thank you's to them just saying thanks for coming? or dont bother? what is the right thing to do? ps- having his mom follow up and ask is not an option unfortunately.

Re: no gifts- THANK YOU CARD??
i would just send thank yous to everyone... however frustrating and annoying the situation is, people dont have any manners i swear. i have a feeling the money your aunt and uncle sent was just from them but the kids road on their coattails
I personally wouldn't send a thank you card to anyone who didn't give a gift.

no, this is just being rude in return.
there is no rule that you HAVE to give a gift. i'm sorry. that's just how it is. ettiquette. manners. sure. rules? no.
everyone gets their own thank you note. thank them for coming. period.

Re: no gifts- THANK YOU CARD??
I would send thank you cards to everyone and save any drama in the future. I know when I was around 25 and had a wedding to go to, I always forgot to buy a card and ended up just giving my mom the money to put in her card.

I agree. You're asking people to share the day with you, not to 'COME AND BRING ME PRESENTS!!!!!!!!!!'
we are sending thank yous to the people who didnt give gifts thank u for coming BUT
we did get one card signed from an entire family of 6 who gave a very cheap gift all together. we did send them all separate invites, but we are still sending them one thank u with everyone's names on the card since thats how they gave us our card. But I would still send them a thank you for coming. Send one to the parents thanking for their gift but i gues send the others each a generic 'thank you for coming'

Re: no gifts- THANK YOU CARD??
I have to agree here to some point. I don't think the card from your aunt and uncle were for the kids. I would send only to the names included on the card.
As for the GM...understandable situation, I'd send a card. I don't really plan to give thank yous to many ppl who didn't give a gift. I'm thankful they came to the wedding, but it would depend on the ppl and the situation. Etiquette dictatates guests have up to a year to give a wedding gift. We all know if it doesn't arrive the same week, you won't see one 99% of the time.

This sounds good. I would do what she said. I think there was a thread like this once before, and I said that I prob wouldnt send a thank you to someone who didnt give a gift, but I guess it's the nice thing to do.

Re: no gifts- THANK YOU CARD??
I agree that no one is required to send a gift, altho i do think that it is incredibly rude no to send/give something when you go to a wedding. the gfit from your aunt and uncle should be considered from them only as it was only their names on the card and as their children are old enough to know they should send their own gift.
i would send non-gifters all thank you's that say thank you for sharing our special day with us, thats it.
what is wrong with people????

Re: no gifts- THANK YOU CARD??
09er crashing...
We had some situations where we did not receive a gift:
Our BM and GM (married couple): She said they forgot the card. We never got it and it's been 7 months.
DH's uncle: Said at the wedding he feels like an idiot and forgot the card. We still never got it.
Friends of ours: She said that there was something on order and it hasn't come in yet. But we saw them for New Year's and there was no mention.
We gave everyone a thank you card. For our BM and GM we thanked them for their support and for being in our wedding party and everything involved (they travelled 7 hours and left their 14 month old for the first time). For DH's uncle we thanked him for coming to our wedding and being a part of our big day. And again, for our friends who travelled far, we thanked them for going out of the way for us and making the long trip. Yes, a gift would be nice to receive, but you can't not thank them since giving a gift is optional to them. The important thing is that they were there for you on your special day.
