no idea about photography

I am getting quotes all over the place... how much did you pay? It is an extremely important component of my wedding but I don't even know what to think.

Thanks!!!

I'm paying a little over $4k, but I'm having 2 photographers, 1 regular and 1 photojournalist.

It really depends on what you want. Our package is $3200 but they're throwing in a lot of extras. I got quotes from $3,000 to even $10,000 from one guy....

I've seen quotes all over the place $3,000-$6,000. a big factor is also the extras you get: how many photographers, how many proofs, how many albums, etc.

my photog charges around 1k ... you get an e-shoot, and all wedding pics on a disc so you can print at your leisure or he will do albums for you for a minimal charge ... www.nickgphoto.com

My photographer is $975 for 5 hrs and $125.00 for each additional hour. We are not getting any albums just all pics loaded on a hi res dvd that we will have exclusive rights to. That way we can print the pics whenever we want. Also, she does all photo editing and takes unlimited shots. She told us we'll have 1000+ pics (not including the ones she discards).

it all depends on what you're looking for. it seems the more popular names (angelica glass comes to mind) will be more money than say patken because theres only one of her.

Every photographer has their own rates you just have to go with who you like and feel comfortable with.

Re: no idea about photography

I have to say when I was looking around, I was very critical because I'm a fashion designer and work with photographers (but they don't shoot weddings) and this is what I noticed. The cheaper photographers weren't that good but threw in a lot of extras to try and get me to book them. All they could offer was a lot of stuff and a cheaper price, but the photos were blah. I wasn't impressed. I'm not saying that paying more money gets you a better photographer but the better photographers get more money for sure.

The studios that had many photographers working was hit or miss because it depends on who you get. Lots of them aren't really photographers but part timers. I've never worked with a photographer that does something else during the week! There's no guarantee they're still working there when your date comes up too. I had a GF that had her photographer switched on her at the last minute by a big studio. I'd rather have the owner be my photographer. I must've gone to like 15 photographers and drove FH crazy in the meantime!

Just remember don't judge a photographer because of the price. Ask to see a portfolio of his or her work then you can decide.

I think i paid around $7k for both but I think it was worth every penny! I love my pics!!!

Imagine studios just launched their new site too- you should check it out!!! THEY ARE AWESOME!!!

Re: no idea about photography

i would suggest really checking out different photog's styles and go by that first and foremost. go by their work and what you love. i think the photog is probably the best spent money for a wedding IMO. its not an area to skimp if you have the ability.

i highly rec Blue Daisy! my package was 4500 (when i got married, they started at 3500 and go up to 7000+ i think, higher packages just included more time and epics but we didnt need either, and also more album pages) which included:

two photographers for 9 hours

unlimited number of photos taken and the couples receive a minimum of 600 (we got 1000+)

images as paper proofs (4x6 unmarked prints) and the same images as high resolution files on a CD or DVD once we finished album

a custom designed 10x10 album with 40 sides (20 pages)- she was awesome to work with on this

she posted teaser pics on her blog soon after (it was like a day for me which was amazing, though im sure that varies)

approximately 3-4 weeks after the wedding, an online private gallery was available so friends and family could view and purchase pics

And she's awesome to work with!!

i used angelica glass....got a lot of photos....over 1300 and we had a second photographer (DH surprised me!!), she was expensive but worth it in my opinion - i also liked something in blue and blue daisy - also expensive....

ohh and i liked belongtodanbuckleys photog too - she has great pics!

from what i have seen on here duet seems pretty good too and i think they may be a little less expensive....

also a lot of brides like thomas paul

there are all different styles of photography so keep that in mind too - see what style you like and go from there....

Re: no idea about photography

The quotes are going to depend on how large yor package is. We are paying $7,000. We have a main photographer ($1500), a photojournalist ($1000) and a videographer ($1500). The rest of the cost is our album ($1200), parent albums (one very upgraded one for my Mom), prints, thank you cards, DVDs, Photo CDs, Proofs etc.
