Hi! I just wanted some help with this because its really stressing me out... My wedding is this upcoming May and its going to be 300 people because my fiance and I have a lot of family and friends. I got suckered into having 7 ring boys and 3 flower girls because I have a tough time saying no to people. Because there will be so many kids in the bridal party alone, we decided to have the reception be adults only (still the kids in the bridal party just no additional ones). One of my cousins is due to give birth the week before the wedding and wants to bring the baby carriage and baby there! She even said this after I told her the wedding is no kids because she is kinda trashy. i can't even believe this and definitely don't want ANY baby carriages at my wedding as they take up so much space and are clearly eye sores. How should I handle this? Thanks for your help! :)

Re: No Kids at Wedding Reception??
First of all a wedding reception is not the place for a newborn! Too much noise, too many people, etc! Just tell her you don't feel like it is a good idea and that you would like her to fully enjoy the reception without having to worry about her baby!

FH's sister in law will have a 4 month old with her. Friends are on their own, but I feel bad telling her not to breastfeed for 2 days while they travel to my wedding!
I told her that she can set up a pack and play in the Bridal Suite and hopefully Dylan stays quiet!

UM really??!! I mean who the heLL brings a newborn to a wedding!!! You aren't supposed to take a baby put until at LEAST 3 - 4 weeks! With all of the germs, noise, etc.... um no!
she is nuts for even wanting to bring the baby!
Im gonna do kids 12 & over at mine....
good luck

uhhh, seriously!!??? What is wrong with that woman! Let's forget that I'm not a fan of kids at wedddings for a minute. You do not take newborns out in public that early, they shouldn't be going anywhere for a good month. I actually think the 2+months that was the rule when we were babies is better. But regardless, you would never , ever bring a week old baby, to a wedding, with 300 people, all those germs, baby's immune system is not yet working, loud noise and lights that could potentially damage the baby's sensitive hearing and sight, I just don't understand people.

Re: No Kids at Wedding Reception??
ITA!!! It is not safe for a newborn at a wedding and I feel like women sometimes try to pull this bc they are used to so much baby attention and they are trying to squeeze more out of ppl on your wedding day! And I understand the baby is young but at some point you realize you can't bring your kids everywhere. Give me a break, when you breastfeed (which most ppl dont stick with anyway) you can pump!! So whats the problem? They should take advantage of a night out together as a couple in a romantic setting and that means leave the baby safe and sound with mom dad or sister!!!
If it were me with a newborn and I was really attached and couldn't leave the baby with someone I would send my regrets and a gift JMO!

Re: No Kids at Wedding Reception??
I don't think it is an issue at all. I have 7 flowergirls/ringbearers, but aside from them, there are not kids invited. Most people will understand and be happy to have a night 'off' from the kids.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this! I think the baby would be much happier and safer at home where it is nice and quiet. I'm not having any kids at the reception except my two 12 year old cousins who are bridesmaids.

Thank you guys so much for all your posts!!! It is totally insane and everyone else is being really understanding, aside from this trash bag (feel so bad saying that about my own cousin but she was 6 months pregnant at her wedding so she clearly doesn't understand what a classy event is!). I am also getting married at Chateau La Mer which is pretty unsafe for kids in general because of the outside deck with the open railings. I am going to make the invitation adult affair and also speak to my cousin once more before the wedding. I don't want baby carriages there! :( :( :(

ummm just because your 6 months pregnant at your wedding does not make you trashy I have had friends who have been pregnant at their wedding and there is nothing wrong with it.
I agree with other posters that its not safe to have a baby, let a long a newborn at a wedding but to say that the carriage is an eye sore is a little much too.

I dont think she meant that as 'being pregnant at wedding = trashy' i think she just dislikes her trashy cousin
hahahaha sorry - had to add my 2 cents....

Re: No Kids at Wedding Reception??
My sister bought my niece to our cousins wedding with the carriage.....she kept the carraige in the corner of the room. What you might also want to consider (which I think I'm gonna do) is hire someone to watch the kids. I THINK I'm only gonna have ring bearers and flower girls too - but at some point during the ceremony they're gonna get tired and annoying - so I'm going to have a babysitter with coloring books and what not in a room - where they can lay down....you may want to look at it....

she said being 6 months pregnant at her wedding , she clearly didnt know what a classy event was! Im sorry but that is a little offensive. Im not starting here but thats a little much and I take offense to it, as my best guy friends wife was pregnant at their wedding, and it was not because she had no class.

we are all here for fun and to help eachother out... try not to take anything to heart :) she was asking advice and sharing her feelings thats all... bthats what these boards are for. we are all stressed out as it is.... everyone's situation is different and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.... bottom line she doesnt like her cousin!

Re: No Kids at Wedding Reception??
I am allowing my immediate family, since their kids are the only ones coming and are in the wedding as FG and RB, that any baby 'gear' can stay in the bridal suite. I too didnt want a pack and play in the middle of my ballroom!
