Unfortunately my aunt slipped and said the date of my shower...anywho.... FMIL finally gives FH the list and he brings it to my mom yesterday and says...'My mom said since my cousin's twin 4 year old girls go to bed at 7:30 and can't come to the wedding they should be able to come to the shower.' My mom said 'well a lot of our close friends have kids it would not be right since the only 2 childrenw ill be the 2 FG's.' First off what a big baby 'My mom said' he is lucky I didn't hear that nonsense. Second his mom has not offered to do a darn thing or a dime! My mom and BP are throwing me an elegamnt brunch at San sousi which is exactly what I wanted! And to cut corners she said no kids, why shoudl their cousin's kids be able to come bc they are forbidden to stay up late one night?! Cmon!

Why do people insist upon doing what they want

I'm sorry, but there is a big difference between a baby who lays in his/her car seat or stroller and doesn't eat or drink anything at the affair and kids who run around like maniacs and eat all the food that was meant for the adults.

I assume those are his kids? Why can't he handle them? What is this the 1950s? I hear about couples like that and I find it hard to believe. I bet he thinks of it as 'babysitting,' too. You can't babysit your own kids.

Re: NO KIDS MEANS NO KIDS!!
Sorry you found out about your shower. Surprises are nice.
But--a shower isn't a kids thing. And, you know what? Those kids don't want to go to the wedding or the shower, it's not about them 'getting' to go to one or the other. The cousin doesn't want to get a babysitter, she's either too cheap, too lazy, or wants her kids to be the center of attention. Well, YOU'RE supposed to be the center of attention, it's your shower. The kids can stay home. Since they couldn't be bothered to tell you straight out, tell your husband to tell his mom that it's adults-only, and the cousin will have to make other arrangements.

Geez I guess I'm not alone, My shower was NO KIDS and although it upset me a bit because my sister wasn't allowed to bring my nephew and almost didn't have a sitter (she's a single Mom) I understood. I personally don't feel that kids belong at showers or wedding, JMO. No exceptions were made and I was fine with that, the kicker was that his cousin walks in the door with her 1 yr old and says sorry I couldn't get a sitter, needless to say my sis was a bit upset.

Re: NO KIDS MEANS NO KIDS!!
Actually, I believe in having kids at weddings. As long as they're not black-tie evening weddings. The kids at mine were one of the greatest joys of the day. I think weddings are about joining families and creating a new one, and kids are part of the family, right? OTOH I also think that kids should go to bed early and they shouldn't be at evening affairs--but then we made sure that our wedding was an afternoon one, as we thought it was important that our stepson, nieces and nephews be there. And they had a blast, playing, dancing, etc.
A shower, however is for the giving of gifts to a bride. There's nothing for a kid to do there. They're just going to get bored and probably act out. Just because it's in the daytime it doesn't mean kids are welcome.

yeah i hear ya, but i am NOT a kid person (kids, babies, any offspring)...don't want any of my own, don't really enjoy other people's (well a select few) yeah i know that sounds harsh...i must be missing a chromosome or something...haha...and all my friends know this...plus her husband is just a selfish a$$...and she caters to him so it pissed me off...if she said 'I needed to bring him because i have to breastfeed him' i would've been ok with that reason...she was also b!tching that i had a 'no kids' rule at the wedding...
Just bc you love your kids does not mean that everyone else does. I love my nieces and nephew but I also know that they are a pain in the @ss. Parents need to realize that not everyone in this world likes children. Personally when I go out and there are screaming kids I say something to the parents. If I wanted screaming kids I would of had some.
