Is it weird not to have a Rehersal Dinner? We have no one helping us and we are already way way over budget so we are thinking of not having an RD. Is that odd?? or bad??
I am not sure what to do. The other thing I thought of was since our wedding is on a Sunday that we could have a BBQ rehersal at my parents house... that would casual and cheap ( I will just by some paper products and BBQ meats and veggies)
What do you think???
ANy other suggestions would be great too....
TIA!!!

Re: No Rehersal Dinner???
The BBQ is perfect. We are also having a very low key RD. We have a huge bridal party so it is really expensive. I think it is all about having a goodtime with the people who are closest to you on that day. Besides your having a wedding the next day which is the fancy dinner lol Dont sweat it! Enjoy it. Let me know how it works out.

Re: No Rehersal Dinner???
my wedding is on a sunday so we're doing a 'rehearsal lunch' on saturday, which isn't even a rehearsal at all so we're calling it a pre-wedding luncheon. You don't have to do one. We were considering skipping it since we're also doing a brunch the day after the wedding for our hotel guests. These things add up!

Re: No Rehersal Dinner???
I'll tell you what were doing. We cant afford to take 30 people out to dinner!!! So the hotel I blocked rooms at is giving me their hospitality room and its $200. The hotel is around the corner from my church so it works perfectly. Then i am just buying pretty 'paper' goods from a party store to decorate a bit and then I am going to have it catered. (aprox addtl $300) so i am looking at $500 tops for a dinner for 30 people. Also no alcohol, which can add a hefty tab to your bill. If $500 is still to much you can cook the food or have a 'pot luck' rehearsal have everyone bring a dish with the recipe to add to your recipe book for your new home. That is a great interactive creative way to not spend so much money and everyone be involved. I mean isnt that what your bridal party is for anyway!!!

Re: No Rehersal Dinner???
The cost of a RD at a restaurant is seriously just an added, unnecessary expense (for us at least). We decided to have ours at my parent's house. We can do it for a fraction of the price and honestly, I love small, intimate dinners. Skipping the whole restaurant thing worked for us. I think a BBQ is a great idea!!! I say go for it! All that really matters is that you rehearse the ceremony, then spend time with the most important people in your lives. HTH!

We probably wont have one at all. We are also on a budget and getting married at the hall. Our Officiant doenst do rehersals and our RH manager said that we dont need one either because an hour before the wedding he will go over everything with us.

Re: No Rehersal Dinner???
We probably will not have an RD because FH's parents agreed to give us a specific amount of money for the wedding, everything wedding related, and we'd rather use their money for the wedding, rather than an RD. Now if my parents decide they want to throw the RD, then I will have one, but usually its the groom's parents who throw the RD.

This is basically what we did, DH's parents did it, except that they also went out to Pindar and got a few cases of wine, and we had brewed special beer, so we had that too. It was great!

Re: No Rehersal Dinner???
If I would do it over again, I wouldn't have an RD. I thought we were going to have OOT Guests join us but they RSVP'd no) and was too nervous the night before to really relax...but that's just my own experience..I think I was stressed out about the slideshow. (almost thought I couldn't get it working).. and last minute preparations.....to really enjoy the RD.
Also my in-laws paid for it (which was nice but I didn't ask them to pay) and wanted something 'formal' when I wanted to go to a fun buffet for lunch or have something casual like a pizza party. I wanted to take the night off and relax before the wedding day. I figured during the wedding we are going to already have a nice formal fancy dinner...anyways didn't go my way...
Also we already thanked our bridal party already with paying their outfits (tuxes/dresses) and gifts on top of that (hair/makeup) and other items. So the RD really wasn't necessary. It was nice of the in-laws to pay but in retrospect wasn't a huge priority. And when we rehearsed, it was so noisy there that we only went through the ceremony for 5 minutes and the parents didn't even pay attention!
In the end it was only my hubby's family that joined us and 3/4 bridal party members. It was nice reunion for my in laws to see their family but that was about it. I didn't even have a chance to talk to them! So that is JMO.
It really depends on your situation...the bbq sounds fun, but it does entail work though in preparation, but if you have people helping, that is great!!!

Re: No Rehersal Dinner???
We weren't going to have one at all, but my MOH (Man of Honor) is a chef at a country club in Farmingdale, so basically we're paying chump change for it, and what's more.. it's his treat.. LOL.. Too bad the place is to small to have our wedding at..
