'No' responses

'No' responses

My responses are starting to come in and I got a no response from one of my good friends from college. She has a small child and lives in Rochester and has money problems so I totally understand that she is not coming. But I'm hurt that she hasn't called me or e-mailed me saying why she isn't coming etc. Keep in mind I have travelled all the way to Rochester for her baby shower etc. Have any of you experienced this? I don't want to call her to make her feel bad for not coming, but I think I at least deserve an e-mail or something from her. Sorry to vent, this one just made me a little upset...

I feel for you ...

it's tough getting the 'no' from a close friend. Maybe she is embarrassed that she can't come even though she knows that you traveled for her. If it really bothers you and it's a close friend of yours - I would just call her and tell her that you got her RSVP and tell her you understand why she can't come and see what she says! If you open the door, she'll probably tell you how disappointed she is that she can't make it.
Good Luck!

This is very common

Many times people wait until the last minute to RSVP. Perhaps she is trying to get a sitter for the evening or trying to figure out if she can afford to come. Since you are very close friends perhaps you can call her and tell her that you understand that she has the baby to worry about and that money is tight, but if she can figure out a way to come, you would consider that her gift to you. Maybe by taking off the $$ pressure of a gift she will be able to attend.
Don't take the lack of a response so hard just yet. There is still time and again, she might just be trying to figure it all out.

give her a little time, maybe she is sending a card or letter or even a gift in the mail to follow. I'm sure she feels badly about it herself. I'm also sure that you will have a wonderful day regardless!!

I know how you feel. I haven't sent my invites yet, but sent my STD cards. I was talking with my father, and told him I had put my cousin Joe on the 'maybe list.' He said he didn't think he was coming, but wouldn't say why. I went to Joe's wedding, his sister's shower, but couldn't attend his sister's wedding in California. I sent a gift and never even got a thank you. I know money is not the issue for him as he is a lawyer, so I am very hurt that he is not going to make the effort. My father has even offered to pay their hotel costs. I guess some people are not going to reciprocate the effort I made towards them, and I will have to accept it. I will not call and ask why. I don't know if I were you if I would have the guts to call the friend to find out why. I think I would chalk it up to money and childcare issues. But I do know how you feel.
