No SHOWS???????

No SHOWS???????

I have heard so many stories of people who RSVP - Yes - but don't show.

How many people has this happened to?

Do people give their reception halls lower numbers to overcome this problem?

I'm sure we have to pay for no-shows so I was wondering if there is anything we can do to deal with this.

I had six no shows, though one couple did call the day before to tell us that they had to attend a funeral in canada. The other 4 just never called or anything. It think it happens alot.

We had 5 no-shows and 2 add-ons at the last minute. We had a sit-down dinner so we did not give the caterers a lower number. If you were doing a buffet, you could probably give a lesser number to the caterers.

We had 11 no shows...we knew some people would not show (DH's parents mentioned that people apparently don't say 'no' because they don't want to offend, but can't actually make it ) so we paid for our minumum and no one extra. We even had 6 additions last minute but my BM was awesome and said he wouldn't charge us in case we had no shows...and it worked out!

But I have to tell ya, no shows hurt - to think anyone could have filled their place....and we have yet to hear from them.

I think we had five cancellations and then another four no-shows. All except two sent a card and gift along with another guest.

We were a little under our minimum anyway, so the cost wouldn't have changed. However, since three of the four no-shows would have been at the same table, I would have preferred to re-do the seating and had one fewer table.

my minimum is 175, which is all i will hopefully have.

if i pay for 175 and only 170 show, i understand i will have to pay for the 5 that don't come.

but what if i pay for 175 and 2 people bring guests that weren't invited? how and when would i have to pay for those extra 2 people?

I actually predicted who my no shows werent going to be and CALLED them a day or two before the wedding to make sure they KNEW how to get there and everything was set.
I could tell from the tone in their voices that they weren't coming esp one girl who said 'Oh yeah, we're fine, Listen, I gg- can I call you back?' and didnt. I marked her right off the list. So what would have been 5 people we predicted 4 (one was a guest that didnt show so you cant be mad about that)

But generally most people say count on 5 no shows.

I went to a wedding that had 32!!! thats like 3 tables!!!!! (it was 300 ppl at that wedding, but still!!!)

I think that it happens pretty much to everyone. I'm a little iffy about telling my hall a lower number. Knowing my luck, they'd all show up and the waiters will have to run around and add more seating.

I would prefer someone to RSVP no then say yes and not show up. That would offend me a liitle more.
