I'm nervous about this too! We had 4 who responded yes to our engagement party and either didn't show or cancelled that day!

we had 6 no shows...ALL from DHs side. Some did not even have the class to call or email to say that they were unable to attend.

I had around 6-7 who couldnt make it. I would give your hall less ppl as the final and then pay for the extras that day.

We had 10 no shows due to a death and the volcano eruption. But this is a pretty high number, I would say the norm is 2 or 3 guests not showing.

if you give your RH a lower number than you expect to come in case of no shows, they will probably not set places for them at the tables so be prepared to tell them where to add settings when you see who really shows up. that could get nasty so I wouldn't leave out too many - - or check if your rh will put settings - - ours would not, only for the number you told them.
