No Show's at the wedding!?!?!

Please help!
I have to call today to give the final count to the hall.

I have always heard from past brides that there are ALWAYS no shows at the wedding. Should I give the smaller count?
Won't they notice once I give my final table chart and people list?

What are you girls doing?

What do you past brides recommend?

before you make your final payment, you may be able to take a few off the count, if someone calls you to cancel.

I had one 'crasher'. he asked for a seat and Leonard's seated him. But, that's an awkard position to put an invited guest in- not having a seat.

Just be careful.

I think you should give the accurate count.

When I turned my final count in at Villa, they went over my seating cards with me and counted for themselves.

I asked what happens if a 'crasher' shows up, they told me they have to seat them and if I wanted them out it would be up to me to throw them out.

Hint..Make real nice with your mait're d...they can work count miracles..hint hint hint

I don't think you can give a smaller count. As Sue said, you can't take a seat away from an invited guest.
Unfortunately, no shows are a sad reality of weddings and you really have no choice but to deal with it! I hope you don't have that many!!

What if I don't count the small kids?
They can always pull up a chair for them...

what do you think?

I don't know if the process is the same, but when I called in the headcount, they gave me my final balance. I called back the day before I had to drop off my final payment. Ian let me take 2 guests off cause they called to cancel. And, they readjusted the bill for me.

How many small kids are we talking about? I wouldn't fudge the count anymore than 2. And, you're better off just giving the full total

If it helps, we had 100 guests and only 1 no show. You might just have to eat the cost of a few plates. I was at a wedding not long ago, where someone at our table (family member of the groom) had them pack up the plates for the people who didn't show. You could always do that and have the OOT guests have an extra meal or let your family take the extra food home.

We had 168 people and only one no show. We ate it.

Im actually hoping for a few no shows...this way I will ask for their dinners to be wrapped up...so that I can bring the left overs home to eat on Saturday...since I won't be leaving for my HM unitl Sunday...(getting married on Friday)...so many past brides have told me that they never got a chance to eat...so this will be my way of enjoying the food.

We had 8 no shows!!!!! We knew the night before that his family from Boston all got the flu and couldn't come but my hall didn't charge me. Maybe they were more flexible because it was February.

Our temple will put 10 people at a table meant for 12 people so already there is actual space for a crasher. Though I will be inclined to have the maitre'd kick them out. If someone has the balls to bring an uninvited guest then they should be prepared to leave. Tough noogies!

If there are no-shows, their dinners are offered to vendors (i.e. band members) or are wrapped up and given to the couple.

There were no-shows at every function my family has made and all for VERY legitimate reasons - mostly health related.

We gave an accurate count. We had one cancellation that was about 2 hours later and I am still POed at those people! But, we just called our best man and asked if he wanted to invite some buddies (that we know anyway). His buddies accepted the offer and all we had to do was make a table change.

ETA: We had no uninvited guests at all!

we had 1 no-show the day of and 3 cancellations the 1-2 weeks prior.

My hall was extremely strict, so we underbooked by 4 and miraculously were even.

This is a really old post, but to answer your question your hall will require you to give them the final head count about a week (or even two) before your wedding so that they can order the correct number of food. They will also want a seating chart so they can set up the tables if you have different sized table options.
