Non-clergy officiant to come to us?

Non-clergy officiant to come to us?

How do I go about finding a Justice of the Peace or a Town Official? We're being married in Islip Township. Should I call the town offices? I really don't want some rent-a-minister, we're not religious, and definitely not 'spiritual.'

Hi there! I started inquiring about this not SO long ago. I dont want a religious ceremony and dont really think its necessary that I spend $500 for a 20 min service...
I called the town and asked them about finding a JOP or Judge and they told me that when I register for a marriage license they give you a list....
Hope that helps

But, don't you get the marriage license pretty soon before the wedding? I kinda need to KNOW that there's going to be someone there to marry us! Ack. I'm going to have to call people tomorrow. Isn't there an Elvis impersonator who can marry people on LI?

I'm wondering the same thing, how do you know they will be available if you don't get there names till what 60 days before? I was going to call them too to find out. I don't want to spend a lot either.

after you go to the town hall to get the lisense, the copy that you bring with you for the officient and your witnesses to sign on the day of comes in the mail soon after.
then after it is signed right before your ceremony, your officient holds on to it and mails it out for you and about a week or so after the wedding, your wedding cert comes in the mail.

I am reading this thread pretty late but I just got engaged and called the town of Hempstead (that's for most of nassau county) and asked them for a list of justices of the peace who do weddings and they just sent it me- 15 months before my wedding! So I dont know if you guys just have an uncooperative town hall but getting the list only when you register for your license is not the only option!
