Do you think there is a Catholic priest out their who would marry me and my fiance in a non-denominational ceremony? We were both raised Catholic, and our families want us to have a Catholic ceremony, but we prefer to have a non-denominational ceremony. To appease my family, I think it would be great if a Catholic priest would marry us, but with the type of ceremony we want. Does anyone know of any laid back or modern priests in the Westchester or NYC area who would consider this?
Thanks!

Re: Non-denominational Catholic Priest????
Search online, maybe 'Pastor Mike'. There are some iunaffiliated priests who do weddings, but it may or may not be recognized.
I think you really need to think about what you want though. You want a Catholic priest to officiate at a wedding that does not follow the Catholic Rite? I don't really know of legit priests who would do that, especially for 2 Catholics. It won't be recognized by the church. It sounds like you're looking for someone to be dressed as a priest and call himself a priest, but won't really be acting in a role as a priest, because the role of a priest is to carry out the Catholic Rite.
Think carefully about what YOU want in your ceremony and what it is that's important to your parents whom you'e trying to please. Looking for a 'nondenominational catholic priest' which is kind of an oxymoron might not actually please your family, and thus not please ANY of you.
Why don't you go to your parish (yes, you automatically belong to the parish where you live, whether you attend or not), and speak with them. You may be able to have a ceremony instead of a mass if you're not comfortable with the mass. You may also be able to incorporate the 'nondenominational' elements you are looking for. We're doing our ceremony in and accoridng to the Catholic church but we're also involving a Rabbi and performing many aspects of a Jewish ceremony.
I'm very involved in the church and I've spent a lot of time thinking about my ceremony. Maybe if you share with me what you want/don't want in your ceremony I can help you understand how that fits into the Catholic context. It's possible that what you want can be done through the traditional catholic route.

Re: Non-denominational Catholic Priest????
Usually Catholic priests who are affiliated with a church won't marry you outside the church itself, even if you want a catholic ceremony. My sister had this problem for her wedding. 'Retired' priests can technically do it though.

Re: Non-denominational Catholic Priest????
FH and I are getting married in a Catholic church but we are just having a ceremony nd not a full mass. If you want to make your family happy you could do this too.

Re: Non-denominational Catholic Priest????
my fh is jewish and i am catholic
in order for me to get married with a catholic priest outside of the church, I had to get a dispensation and because my fh was jewish we were granted one.
the church will not permit 2 catholics to get married outside of the church
