I am trying to think of alternatives to the traditional bridal shower. I don't really want to sit and unwrap 50 gifts while half of my guests enjoy it and the other half are bored out of their minds. I was thinking of having them wrapped in clear wrap to shorten this. Any other ideas on how to make the shower not so traditional?

I don't want anyone to get offended that I didn't announce what they got me (because it might seem like I don't appreciate it). :(

Re: Non-traditional bridal showers
Someone I know had their shower at their house...the guests put the gifts, which were wrapped in clear cellophane (sp?), in the rooms that they belonged in (towels in the bathroom, knives in the kitchen). People then wandered the house to see what the bride got.
You can turn your shower into a cooking demonstration...or a sex toy party (depending on your guests)...or bring in a massage therapist and turn it into a spa party.
You can also still play 'games' and do silly things...put pics out of you and your FH at different ages and have people guess what age you were (or the chronological order)...have people write down a funny story from their marriage/relationship and read them outloud...
If you like desserts, turn it into a dessert party...chocolate fountain, cupcake/cookie decorating, etc.

Re: Non-traditional bridal showers
This is a really good question and I'd love to know a tactful solution, too! I hate opening presents in front of people, and it's bad enough at xmas when we get a regular amount...the idea of opening 50+ gifts makes me feel so awkward.
Maybe a bridal shower at a crafts place, like ceramics? That way you and your guests could create something with a lasting memory and they can just drop gifts off as they come in so you don't have to open them there?

Maybe you can have fh and he can open the gifts?? lol. Maybe play games? Thats always fun. Eat and drink? Or dance? I was actually thinking on going to the wineries as a bridal shower. So not traditional.

You can request on the invite that your guests either not wrap the gifts or wrap in cellophane & that way it doesn't require you to open gifts in front of everyone/everyone has to sit & watch you open your gifts. I personally think that's a great idea!

I think I am going to def do the clear wrap. I just wish there was something else we could do that isn't so traditional and everyone enjoys themselves.

Re: Non-traditional bridal showers
We had a non traditional shower for my daughter. it was more of a celebration with a DJ in Roma View. All the guests were asked to wrap in clear. Once the party started, we asked the guests if they wanted the bride to open the gifts and the overall response was NO! Everyone was having such a good time, they didn't want to stop dancing. The gifts were on display. When each guest arrived at the shower, we had labels with their names written on them and we slapped the label on the gift they gave. This way guests could see which guest gave which gift.
On the invitation, we stated
'Be a dear and wrap in clear.'
Guests had such a nice time and also commented that it was the best shower they had ever attended.

Re: Non-traditional bridal showers
I am all about a non-traditional bridal shower. Def. tell your guests to wrap it in clear. I'm sure you can find a poem to put on the invitations stating this. i already told my mom, i want a cocktail party with a tarot card reader!
