Non-Traditional Ceremony Music ... any suggestions?!

Non-Traditional Ceremony Music ... any suggestions?!

FH & I have decided that we'd like to use some non-traditional music for the processional, recessional and throughout the ceremony.

So far the songs we've come up with are:

#34 - Dave Matthews Band

Three Flights Up (Instrumental) - Yellowcard

I would some other suggestions and ideas. We are getting married at the RH, so music will be played by our DJ.

I just can't see walking down the aisle to Canon in D or Here Comes The Bride!

Is anyone else doing this?!

Love the idea of #34, #41 is one of my faves!!!

As of right now we are using somewhere over the rainbow for the parents, enya's only time for the BP and I will walk to Ava maria by Charlotte Church. I too am not a here comes th bride/canon D kinda girl. If it were up to me I could make a whole wedding out of what is considered adult altenative, but it's not FH;s thing, he's more of a Metallica/Green Day guy!

here's what we used:

BP processinal :Edwin McCain - I Could Not Ask for More

Bride's processional: Chantal Kreviazuk - Feels Like Home

Our Recessional: Heavy D - Now That We Found Love

we had a casual themed wedding so classical music would've seemed weird..haha

Love the ideas!

I am using Wonderwall by Oasis, Lover Lay Down by DMB, Colorblind by Counting Crows, and Clocks by Coldplay

Are you open to non-traditional classical music, or are you only looking for modern music?

Although I used 'Here Comes the Bride' for my processional and Mendelssohn's wedding march for my recessional, I used a lot of non-wedding classical music and musical theatre for the prelude, postlude, and BM processional.

Prelude:
'Bel piacere,' G. F. Handel
'Other Pleaures,' Andrew Lloyd Webber
'An die Musik,' F. Schubert

BM processional:
'Where e'er you walk,' G. F. Handel

Postlude:
'All the Things You Are,' O. Hammerstein II and J. Kern
'La promessa (Ch'io mai vi possa),' G. Rossini

My brother's wife's (SIL) processional was the 'Meditation from Thais' by Massenet. It's not unheard of at weddings, but also not that common.

Another poster on this site is using The Corrs' 'Breathless' as her recessional. It's a great song.

I also once went to a wedding where the band played an instrumental version of 'Just the Two of Us' for the bridal processional.

Here was our rundown to see if it helps! We used a string trio:

Prelude music was mostly contemporary classics like showtunes & movie scores & song.

BP Processional: 'The Prayer'
My entrance: 'All I Ask of you' from Phantom
Vows: 'Thank you' by Led Zeppelin
Sand Ceremony: 'Come what may' moulin rouge
Rose Presentation to moms: 'You raise me up' josh groban
Pronouncement & Recessional: 'Bittersweet symphony' by the Verve

that last song sounded so cool and i'm so glad we picked it---really bouncy and fun!

Yeah we are!

The Bridal party will walk down to 'Wild Horses' (instrumental)

and I'm walking down to 'she's got a way' (instrumental) because FH always said he thinks of me when he hears that song...so I thought it would be amazing for him to hear that the first time he sees me on our day.

And 'Bittersweet Symphony' for the ending music to our ceremony.

I walked down the aisle to 'God Only Knows' by The Beach Boys.

Of course, my freaking father turned to me as we were walking & said 'good song!' I said 'its the Beach Boys' and smiled. He said 'No. I though this the theme to that HBO show? The one with the guy with 3 wives...?' Great timing dad. Thanks for bringing up polygamy as I walk down the aisle...

I think I'm using somewhere over the rainbow...

not sure yet!

My father used to sing it to me all the time and I think he would love it!

I know! Its such a pretty song!!!

FH found it for me, I assigned him the task of keeping track of the music and finalizing it all.

Our processionals were traditional: Canon in D, and Wagner's bridal march, but I wanted something different for the recessional. So we had U2's 'Beautiful Day.' I loved it! And so did everyone else, as far as I could tell.

We are going traditional for the processional with Cannon in D and I will walk down the isle to Jesu, Joy of Man's Desire (Josh Groban version), for the unity candle ceremony we are thinking of We've Only Just Begun by The Carpenters or God Only Knows by The Beach Boys or The Irish Wedding Song for the Recessional we are thinking of All You Need is Love by The Beatles or Seasons of Love from Rent. I never realized how hard it is to pick music for a wedding.

I finally figured out my music!

BP...Autumn in New York by Ella fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong
Me...Somewhere over the rainbow (The isreal K version)
Going out...What a wonderful world/somewhere over the rainbow part 2 by same guy

So happy I figured this out!

I walked down to 'Somebody' by Depeche Mode.
Our recessional was 'This Will Be' by Natalie Cole - loved it! It was fun and happy.

My SIL used 'Beautiful Day' by U2 as her recessional song.

My sister used all Disney songs (instrumental) for her ceremony. I think her processional song was 'Someday My Prince Will Come' and the recessional was 'A Whole New World' (from Aladdin).
