Non-traditional Weddings

How many of you had or are having a non-traditional wedding?

We are not religious people, have a small guest list of about 55, will not have BM's or GM's or a FG, no limo's, not sure about this DJ thing and as much as I love flowers, the only flowers we'll have is my bouquet, which i'm not throwing.

there are certain things about ours that wont be traditional, we arent having that many people either. I would just suggest that of all the things in a traditional wedding that you should keep... definitely keep the photographer/videographer.

Right - there are all kinds of ways to do non-traditional.

We're doing all the normal stuff (vendor wise), but instead of a DJ that does giveaways, etc, we're using a NYC club DJ that will play a mix of songs we provide. We will NOT be doing any of the group dance songs.

We are getting married at the CH, we're not religious, so we had our pastor help us write a VERY personalized ceremony with very few references to God.

We are actually doing what they did on How I Met Your Mother and making a list of typical, traditional things that we refuse to do...

coolness. i haven't seen that episode - i don't get the chance to watch it.

FH's friend is a pro-photographer, so he's going to take some shots. my brother & SIL are avid hobbyists at it too, so i figure they'll do a good job. i'm not too picky about the photos & video. dont get me wrong, i do want them, but i cant stand the idea of paying for something we do ourselves ALL the time.

ummm....and i'm frugal.

i think non-traditional weddings are so much fun to plan. you have the freedom to do whatever you want. however, you'll find people are either with you or want to throw their two cents in. don't listen to the critics, do whatever you want however you want it. it's your wedding after all. what kind of a theme do you want? where are you having the wedding?

hi there! we are doing a semi non traditional wedding too! when we started planning, it was going to be totally non traditional but has become much bigger and just all around MORE than we originally thought. but, we have managed to keep our invite list to about 75 people so it will still be small.

we also will not be using limos, videographer or doing much of the traditional dances, announcements, garter toss, etc. the flowers and still photos were important to me so we spent some $ on that. we haven't hired a dj yet, but we will, i'm just hoping we can find somebody who won't want us to conform to all the usual traditions!

good to see somebody else on here that's having a small(er) wedding!!
