Not a parent - question about neice

My neice is going to be two at the end of March. She is such a peanut and I love her soo much. I am alittle upset with my step - brother and his girlfriend and I know its none of my business I just want some of your veiws so I know if i am or not overreacting. I love her so much and while I intend to mind my business i just want to keep an eye out.

If her pamper leaks and her clothes are soaked / they dont change her onez or her clothes just her pamper - is this normal ? It really upsets me.

She humps things - her stuffed animals, our legs, not just once and a while at least 5 times periodicaly through out the day - literally humping like a dog - not touching herself. And they donnot stop her. I am really concerned about this, should i be?

Thank you

OMG

She sits in her unchanged urine soaked clothes?!!!??? THATS NOT RIGHT!!!! How would you like to sit in that? Always a good thing to ask yourself!!

Humping things?! Does she have a dog? Who would have shown her such a thing? it may not be humping like you and I think of humping. She may do it because it is a fun motion. If they pay no mind to it it shouldnt be something she continues. Just like if you hear your baby curse... you dont say OMG NO DONT SAY THAT. You ignore it and dont ever say that again. Bringing it to the attention of a 2 year old that something is bad/wrong only makes them want to do it more.

Im sorry. I would voice my concerns to my parents and talk to them together. Not changing a babies clothes that are soaked with urine is gross and not hygenic (is that a word)

I strongly agree! Everything should be changed immedietly. As for the humping, she has to of learned it from someone or something??? It may be a motion that soothes her or she learned it???? I would voice my opinion loudly to your brother and his girlfriend. JMO

thank you soo much for answering -

Yes urine soaked clothing - this has happened on more than one occasion - it just breaks my heart. I know its not right.

As far as the humping goes - they dont have a dog - i realize that she gets no adult 'stimulation' from the humping I just have never seen another child do this and with the frequency that it happens.

I would love my Mother and Stepfather to sit down and have a talk with them but they are not confrontational at all. If anyone would have to do it it would be myself and FH.

Insight from Dr. Spock

Humping

No child should have to sit in wet clothes, urine or otherwise. Were they out of the house and forget to pack extra clothing? Otherwise its sheer laziness. Poor child....

No on both ocasions they were spending the night and had packed clothes whether they broght an extra change or not who knows they sure didnt use them. I just feel I would rather my kid in just a diaper for and hour or so if I had no clothes to change her into so i could throw the wet ones into the washer /dryer. Do you think its ok if I suggest that if this happens again?

Kate -
Thank you for the article on humping - my mother pointed out that it is usually when she is tired.

You could suggest it, if you think they won't be offended. Also - what almost 2 year old has a diaper leak so often??? Diapers leaking are something IMO, that happen to very small infants, when the baby is still sooo tiny that the diapers are too big for them.

This is just my own opinion, but maybe the diapers they are putting on her just aren't the right size? Otherwise, they would have to leave her in a soiled diaper for upwards of the three hours for those things to finally leak!
So sad for this poor child

That is definitely a no-no they should change her clothes for sanitary reasons if for no other reason. The poor baby could get a rash.

As for the humping a lot of children that age do this it is completely normal and you shouldn't make a big deal about it.
