not allowed to have cake topper?!

Original post by stonepondbabe

So I went for my first of the final appointments at my reception hall and they inform me we cannot have a cake topper on the cake unless it 'weighs nothing'.
For pictures they pop it on top, then they display it in front. They say it will squish the cake.
Anyone hear of this, sounded odd to me. Now I have to add a weightless topper to my list of things to do....

thats strange! years ago my sister used a precious moments cake topper for hers and it was kind of heavy and it was fine. they are a catering hall and should have some sort of tools to work with but heres didnt ruin the cake

I'm starting to see it make sense. But quite franky I can't beleive mine is heavy enough to be a problem. And they still won't consider even if I add a base of some sort to distribute the weight. I have never seen one fall or smoosh, but I guess it happens.
