A friend of mine is getting married this month- but I responded that I would not be able to attend her wedding. (Ill be on vacation) Her shower is 1 week before her wedding- and I cant attend this either. What should I give her as a gift? (P.S. She will be invited to my wedding)

I would give the same gift as if i were attending the shower and have it sent to her home or the address listed on her registry

Re: Not attending a wedding
I usually send a separate shower gift and wedding gift but since they are so close together I would send one nice gift. I either do something from Things Remembered or if they are still on her registry you can buy her flutes and cake cutting supplies, or a nice picture frame OR cash is always nice too.

Re: Not attending a wedding
I would send her a shower gift off her registry and mail it to her house. For her wedding, I would send her a cash gift and mail it to her house. Proper etiquette states that you have up to 1 year to send a wedding gift to a new couple so if you send it just after her wedding when she gets home from her hm that is proper (if this concerns you) that's what I would do if i wasn't able to go to her wedding or shower....don't feel bad though because we all know that stuff comes up in people's lives and not everyone will be able to make it to our weddings

Re: Not attending a wedding
I would really go by how much you can afford to spend. I wouldn't give anything under $100 but I would most def not go over $500. If you are getting a gift and sending a cash gift I do not feel you need to go anywhere near $500. If it was me, I would prob send $200 as a cash gift. That is a nice gift along with a nice registry gift for the shower.

Since you are not attending her wedding, even $50 for a wedding gift is acceptable and would be appreciated. If y ou have the means $100 would be the perfect amount....and a modest shower gift.
Since you are not attending, the fact that you are still sending a gift and a card is a huge gesture.

Re: Not attending a wedding
its obivously not a close friend or you would have made arrangements to be there.... so i say send a gift off the registry for the shower... maybe a $50 item or so ... then send a card with a check... $100 should do it, i think.
We recently had an engagement party and got some cards with checks from people who didnt come and the amount ranged from $25 - $100 and that was only for an engagement party.

Re: Not attending a wedding
I agree with what the girls are saying - a gift off her registry for the shower and a seperate gift for the wedding. Even if you don't attend, it's polite to send a gift when you're invited.

ITA with this. I am not expecting gifts from the nos from either my shower or wedding, so if we do get any checks or gifts, I will consider it gravy and be happy with it.

I would do the same thing. How much I think has to do with how close you are with her.
