I was hearing a weird 'rumor' that you do not HAVE to feed your band if they are continually playing throughout your wedding. I never heard of such a thing?!?! Is it true? My understand was that the reception hall charges you per band member to feed them (just at a little less cost then guests).
Any feedback ???
Thanks !!!

Re: Not feeding the band? Ever hear of this?
I haven't reached this step yet, but I heard some (possibly most) bands and DJs include this in their contract. You may be able to negotiate on it, but I'm not really sure.
My hall discourages feeding them, but I might do it anyway. I don't want to worry about ticking them off and possibly getting lower quality service. But definitely ask the bands about this.
Also, most halls offer a discounted meal for vendors - usually sandwiches or something small.

I think most bands put it in their contract that they be fed. My band actually has it in their contract that they get to eat the same thing as the guests...
They are there for a long time, so it kind of makes sense to me that they would be fed, but I guess you could just check with them.

I fed my band, but they did not require it. It's really up to you. They were flexible about it. There was nothing in my contract about it.

I'd feed them.
I'm having a DJ and his assistant and I will feed them, I can't have them not eat they'll be there for several hours and I know if I was the vendor I'd want to be fed.

for my e-party, my rh asked me if i wanted to feed the DJ - i had the option to
a - let them just eat during CH (FREE) b - let them just eat the pasta and salad (1/4 of the proce per head) c - let them get the works (pasta, main dish, dessert) (1/2 of the price per head)
i chose to let them get the whole works - i thought it was the more appropriate thing to do - i wouldnt want to deprive them of less food than the guests - JMO

I had the option of feeding my DJ, photographer and videographer. It was my choice. It wasn't written anywhere that I HAD to and I opted to feed all of them.

You should really feed them, even if you don't HAVE to. Its not like they can take a lunch break and go out for food. They are working for you the whole day/night, I think its only right to provide them with some kind of food.

I think it's the right thing to do-- The vendor meals cost me a significant amount of money less than my guest meals-- it was only a couple of hundred bucks-- and for people who will be with you, running around for 10+ hours with you-- I think it is a courtesy.
Also-- if you end up being under your minimum, you may be able to apply some of those meals to your vendors, than it's a wash.

It was in my contract that I had to feed him (I would have done it anyway)

Same here. But you want them to be happy! I didn't tip my band, but I paid for their meals and I had a 10 member band.

It's in our band contract that we feed the band. We've heard them play at another friend's wedding and they provide a cd to be played while they eat (at the same time as the guests to not interupt the flow of everything).
Our hall charges us 1/2 price to feed them (they really only eat a meal, not the other courses since they are busy playing music).

My band said not to feed them, however when I presented this to my catering hall, they said that they would not be able to even get a glass of water if I didn't pay for their meal.

my band told me not to feed them. I think they would rather have a tip so I will just do that.
