NOT HAVING A PHOTOGRAPHER... THAT TACKY ???

My fiancee and I are looking to get our own place soon. We also want to go on a cruise for our honey moon. We dont wanna have to wait another 2 years to get our own place because our wedding cost too much. We have an awesome place for the ceremonie and reception. We are getting a inexpensive DJ... we wanted to buy a nice camera and have someone we trust take pics. IS THAT A HORRIBLE IDEA ?? we just cant afford a photographer..

Also, the DJ is very important as well. A bad DJ can kill your party. I've been to a few boring weddings and you don't want that.

Tacky would imply something else. Not having a photographer will not impact that day - so I dont' think its tacky.

However, I do think you will sooo regret this decision. After the wedding is over, you may wish you had spent the extra money.

I would suggest getting a photographer to shoot your day and just getting the photos - no albums or reprinta. This will keep the cost down but allow you to get a good photographer. Once you have money, you can always get the albums, etc.

I don't know if all photographers do this but Im sure there are enough.

I agree with Sonicstef......

I would not skip the photographer at all. These are your memories of your big day. Maybe you can hire someone by the hour, or just to purchase the proofs, and create something from them. I really would NOT recommend. I would die, if I didnt have my photogrpaher.

you also don't have to go on your honeymoon right away...have you considered going to a B&B for 2 days and then taking your honeymoon on your 1 year anniversary?

Crzycat, I think I can help you...

Email me at [email protected], I would like to discuss your photography problem with you.

Try to find

someone who can take shots for just a few hours. You do not need to get a bunch of fancy albums. I had a good friend who did not order albums, just their proofs and negatives. They made enlargements for their parents and themselves and put the proofs in a pretty album.
You do not need thousands to find a good photographer who is willing to help you out. Try Mark Kauffman. Although he can be on the expensive side I know he has a photos only option. Explain that you cannot afford a lot right now. I am sure he would work out something with you.

Pictures are something that will last a lifetime and I think you would regret not having any at all. I'm sure you can find a good photographer that will have small package for a decent price.

I'm not getting married until 7/2003, so I know how you feel about wanting to move in and get going with things. My FH and I decided to wait on moving in until around April or May of 2003 so we can save some more and focus on having good vendors for the wedding.

Good luck to you!

Same problem, BUT still having photographer

I agree with everyone else, the photographer is an important part of the day. You can give up other things (make you own centerpieces, don't have limos, cut down the # of guests, price of favors, delay your honeymoon, buy a less expensive dress etc.). We hired 2 of Mark Kaufmann's photographers for 3 hours (an hour before ceremony up to the beginning of the reception) for $800 (this includes 200 proofs) b/c we cannot afford more. This price was better than others b/c of the 2 photographers and the style of pictures that we want. I was very persistent with Mark to get this type of package, and I made sure to get everything in writing b/c he charges by the proof (so I told him we want no more than 200). But, he was more than willing.

The rest of the time, we have a family member who offered taking pictures and disposable cameras on each table (we bought them at BJs for $5 each and they say wedding on them). You can save in other places: my dress was only $300, my invites only $130, DJ only $650, and only having 60 guests, and no limos.
Just make sure you prioritize about what is important to you and your FH and think ahead and ask your married people what they would have done differently about their wedding plans. Good luck!!
