Just wondering, are catering halls generally leniant when it comes to the guarenteed number of guests. It looks like we might fall 10 or so short, do you think we could use the money that we'd be paying for plates for no-shows and put it somewhere else (extended cocktail hour, farewell table, something along those lines). I know it probably depends on the hall, but does anyone have any experiences to share??

Re: Not Making the Minimum....
as far as I know, you pay the min number of people. If we didn't meet our min, instead of paying 1/2 for the vendors and/or kids, we would be adding them to the min. I think they are going to make you pay for the 10 you are short, but I think that you should talk to them. Count how many vendors you have and add them to your min. We low-balled our min thinking we would have a hard time getting there and now we realized we may max out the room. We invited 20 more than the max the room holds!

Re: Not Making the Minimum....
When we checked out Jericho Terrace the minimum for the skylight room was 150. We were told that even if u don't make the minimum we would still pay for that 150.

Re: Not Making the Minimum....
I believe that is the purpose of a min. guarantee... whether you have say 150p or not you still pay for those 150. My hall has the same rule that if you dont meet that number your vendors get included in your min. guarantee, same with children... they will be counted as adults. We booked the lower guarantee so we didnt have this problem, figured we would rather pay up then pay for people that didn't show. Let us know what happens though if your hall tells you differently! Good luck!

Re: Not Making the Minimum....
We were under our minimum. Our RH had us count the vendors toward the head count which helped, plus they gave us extra meals to bring home...which was great because who wants to cook the day after your wedding.

From what I know of you will have to pay for them but, you can use it towards the vendors. If you have 2 photographers, 1-2 video guys, DJ and MC that will help. Also did you include yourself with that count?

Re: Not Making the Minimum....
ask if you can upgrade some things like adding a chocolate fountain or more CH foods
they should be willing to accomodate you in some form or another

Re: Not Making the Minimum....
My understanding is you will have to pay the minimum whether they show or not. They may work with you and throw in a few extras ... just ask. Good luck!!

We will be under our minimum and our RH is happy to accommodate us by throwing in extras instead of wasting the plates.

Re: Not Making the Minimum....
If you are under yourminimum you then include your vendors and kids in your full price, anything after that would be whatever discounted price they gave you.
If youare under your minimum including all your vendors and kids then speak to your hall about having something added in for the difference, whether its an extra dessert or an added CH item-you will still have to pay for whatever your minimum is
