Not much done yet...what do you think?

Not much done yet...what do you think?

Hi ladies. I'm getting married in early Oct 06. I got engaged at the end of Oct 05.

So far, all I've done is visited reception sites (i took last week off to do it) and found one we like and hope to book in the next week or so (after we try to negotiate the price down a bit).

I know which church I want to have the ceremony in, but we have not booked it because I feel I need to be certain of the date, by booking the reception venue first.

That's all I've done so far! I haven't even picked a bridal party yet.

I work long hours but am a control freak who doesn't want to hire a wedding planner and doesn't want to spend any more $ on one either.

My questions are: Do I have time to do everything? What needs the most leadtime? What should I focus on first? Help...

You have plenty of time, but I'd start now!

You need to choose your reception hall so you have a set date, then from there, everything else can be booked. I would book the music next, then photographer, then florist...limos can be done last.

Good luck!

We went to the Church first b/c the reception site was more flexible. There are certain times that our church does not perform marriage ceremonies, so we went to them for clearance before booking the reception.

So far you're off to a good start, but I would definitely get the ball rolling on your dress and the BM Dresses - some companies take 6-8 months....

After that, I would go for photography, DJ, florist, and Limos....

Good Luck! The ladies on here are very resourceful and could help you out!

One thing I forgot to ask, since I'm a wedding newbie...don't laugh.....what happens at a trunk show?

Also, (again don't laugh), since I'm running short on dress time and certain designers take so long to get the dress in, what size are sample dresses? Do stores sell those? Or are they so beat up you wouldn't want to buy them?

You definately have time, we planned our wedding in less than 9 months. I would start now though.

Trunk show is when the designer brings dresses of their new line out and offer consumers a discount.

Sample dresses are usually a size 10 or 12...and sometimes there are smaller and larger available.

I've seen sample dresses in fantastic shape and then others in terrible shape.

I would suggest start looking online for designers and designs you like, and then going to a salon that offers a majority of those dresses, trying them on, and the rest will fall into place.

Suggestion: check out phyllis at gownfind.net - she offers great prices and does great alterations!

I think your doing just fine. We got engaged in Aug 2005 and are getting married May 2006 so that only gave us 9 months to do everything. SO far we have been very lucky that all our vendors had our date available. I would definitely get going on booking the Hall & Church because you really cannot book anything else until you have the date & location. Good luck to ya, and remember to have fun with the planning because it all goes so fast.

You are just fine. You will be able to get everything done. Make a list and check stuff off as you go. Once you book your date at a place you will feel better.

You have plenty of time. Def finalize the hall then the church. Allow at least 6 mth for your dress. The rest will fall in place. I found the hall to be the hardest. Once you have a date you can do everything else.

Enjoy!!
