I dont plan on buying my dress until 2005, but the designer Im interested in is having a trunk show at Macy's in Manhasset. Im not really sure how these things work, but Im certain I dont want to try dresses on. Im more interested in seeing the dress and finding out how much it costs. Am I wasting my time going?

Re: Not sure if I should go to trunk show
I went to BR in Massapequa because they were having a Jim Hjelm trunk show & I thought it was a waste.

It really sounds like you don't want to go. I would call the designer to see when they have other trunk shows scheduled for this area later in the year.

Re: Not sure if I should go to trunk show
Dont get me wrong, I really want to see my dress, but I just dont want to waste any of the salesgirl's time. I've been looking for dresses since before we got engaged. There's only one dress that was made for this Diva, so I want to see it in person. But Im still losing weight (41lbs so far and counting) so I dont want to try it on. I want colors, pricing, and all that jazz. I just dont want to waste anyone's time.....

I *think* part of the trunk show deal is you need to purchase it to get the discount.
I could be wrong ...

Re: Not sure if I should go to trunk show
Congrats on the weight loss!!
This may sound terrible, but this is part of what sales people get paid to do and they are going to be there anyway.
Since you already have your gown picked out, it will not take them more then 15-20 minutes to talk to you and give your the details you want.
ets - with the trunk show, you would have to order now to get the sale price, but you can get the other information you want. They may really try to pressure you into placing an order - is that something you feel like dealing with now? I would also want to find out if there are any plans to discontinue the style you want. (This I would get from the designer though.)

Why was it a waste?? please explain! I'm going there on Jan 10th w/ my girls.. I was hoping it was going to be a successful day, but now you have me second guessing this... I love JHjelm's BM dresses & my dress is by JM, so I wanted to keep w/ the same designer...
Question?? were you able to look at other dresses besides JHjelms while you were there?? This way the day isnt wasted.
THanks!

PS: I'm kind of in a hurry to get my girls dresses since I'm running out of time, so as far as ordering them that day, thats what I'm hoping for...

You bring up a good point Christine..... I know the dress I want has been out for more than 2 years. I never even thought of them discontinueing it. They do have a couple of other trunk shows for later this year, but again Im just excited to go see the dress!!

RE: Jim H at BR
I felt it was a waste because the 'trunk show' was a rack of dresses and I think only the newest season (I was interested in something from an older season). They didn't even bring me the two I was interested in - they didn't know where they were downstairs.
I did try on about 10-12 other dresses and found THE DRESS, so it was not a wasted visit, I just meant the trunk show aspect.
It was also my one & only visit to a salon, so maybe I should have been more prepared and told them when I made the appt what I wanted to see.
Gloria, who helped me was actually really nice and because the appt before me went a little late, she actually spent about an hour & half with me.
I ended up ordering my dress from bridesave.com because it was $358 cheaper.
