Hello, I'm not exactly sure where to get married or what I'm really looking for. All I know is that I would like a place that has high-ceilings and an open feeling. We have gone to look at Flowerfields, Carlyle on the Green, and Bourne Mansion. So far, Bourne Mansion is more what we are looking for. Any other suggestions as far as places to go look at? Any bit of advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

I'm still learning how to use this website...ha! I meant to ask, how many people does the Old Field Club accommodate?
All these suggestions are great! I can't believe how helpful everyone is.
Oheka is not in our budget...although, it's gorgeous!
For all you Royalton brides...it looks beautiful. How many people does it hold? What's it like inside?
I think that 180 would probably be a little tight at the Old Field Club. OFC is perfect for somewhat smaller weddings..approximately 130 or less (maybe a little higher).
For the price, Fridays are $100-105pp plus tax and tip, saturdays are $125pp plus tax and tip and sundays are $110pp plus tax and tip.

The Royalton holds up to about 225 (I think) and we are having around 150. We wanted the 'mansion' feel and we love it. It is immaculate and the food is outstanding (we did a tasting). The entire menu is customizable. On the 2nd floor there is a bridal room, 2 groom's rooms, and a parents room and everyone (including the parents) get their own attendants. You can even stay there overnight in the bridal suite for free and they give you a butler. Upon arrival, the guests get wine, champagne, and hour d'euvers. Then during the cocktail hour (or after the ceremony), they pass around 3 different martinis that you get to customize. Mike T is amazing. His enthusiasm is contagious. I am so excited about my wedding :)

Definately check out The Old Field Club! It has beautiful high vaulted ceilings, has a very open and airy feel to it, and it's located right on the water. It's absolutely beautiful! See pic below.
I happen to be biased, as I am getting married on Saturday at the Old Field Club...but you really should look at it! Tom is so incredibly amazing, and right down to finalizing the head count, and all of the details, he has been sooooooooooooo helpful! Food is delicious, and very quaint, and vintage.
Okay, second choice would be Land's End. We grew up near the OFC, but Land's End is phenomenal!

Re: Not sure where to get married?
The Old Field Club looks beautiful but I think it is too small for us. We are currently trying to cut our number from 200 - 180...I'm not sure if we could get it any lower. The Vanderbilt at Dowling is too small for us as well. Everyone's reviews are so helpful...especially since I'm not 100% sure what type of venue I'm looking for (so I just look at all of them...ha). So far, Bourne Mansion (we went to see) is on the top of our list. Other places that have caught my eye so far are:
Giorgio's Royalton (which i never heard of so thanks for all the info everyone) NYIT De Seversky Center Atlantica
I think I will definetly make an appointment to see the Royalton. What do you know about the other 3 i listed?

Re: Not sure where to get married?
We loved the Woodlands, it has the same feel as the Bourne Mansion but more cozy. The Old Field Club only holds about 150 people, but it is beautiful. Also try, de Severesky on NYIT campus, we loved Carlyle on the Green and the Village Club at Lake Success. Good Luck!

Re: Not sure where to get married?
I looked at the de Seversky Center and I think it will be too small for you. We wanted a 150 person wedding and in order to accommodate that, there would be A LOT of shuffling between rooms. The cocktail hour takes place in 3 rooms, dinner and dancing in one room, and the cake cutting in ANOTHER room. We thought that people wouldn't go into another room to watch our cake cutting and would rather have everything together.
We loved the Woodlands when we saw it and it can definitely accommodate a party of your size. I am having mine at the Royalton and it has the mansion feel that it seems like you prefer from the list of venues you are looking at. I am thrilled with it and didn't feel like we had to compromise any of the things we were looking for.
When you looked at the Bourne, did you look out back? We got there early so we walked around the property. In the back, we noticed the paint on the windows was peeling, the stone walls were broken, plastic was covering the inside of windows on the 2nd floor, there were planks of wood thrown into the bushes and caution tape around the crumbling brick wall. We canceled the appointment immediately and didn't even want to look inside. It was one of the more expensive venues and it didn't look like they maintained the property. I know people that have had their wedding there and loved it. I don't know... maybe I went there on a bad day.

Re: Not sure where to get married?
I got married in the Winter Garden Pavillion at Fox Hollow and our room had high window ceilings. Also the Brooklyn Botanical Garden has a ballroom with high window ceilings. Looking at photos these places look open or have high ceilings or lots of windows:
Coral house Oheka Millridge Inn Metropolitan Old Field Club The Foundry Gotham Hall Lighthouse at Pier 60 almost any NY loft feels open!
HTH!

Re: Not sure where to get married?
You honestly have to go look at places. THere were places I saw online that I loved and when I went there I was like NO. I got married at the woodlands and i had no interest in going there my mom forced me and I loved it.

Re: Not sure where to get married?
I COMPLETELY agree with what shcole08 said. Pictures online can be very deceiving. I was completely disgusted with 2 places that looked great online. I loved the Woodlands and someone suggested on LIWeddings that if I liked the Woodlands, I should check out the Royalton. I was sick of looking at places so my mom checked it out for me after school (she's a teacher on LI and I live in Jersey) and she really liked it. She took pictures for me and thought we would like it so we went that weekend and booked it!

Re: Not sure where to get married?
When you say open, do you mean high ceilings, near water, scenic, etc.?
Crest Hollow Country Club has high ceilings on all its rooms on the second floor. DH and I had our reception in the Starlight room, which overlooks a pool/fountain. There are also very open garden-y areas for pics on site, although these are not visible from the rooms. FM me if you'd like more info from the site.

Re: Not sure where to get married?
Has anyone actually been to a larger wedding at OFC? I am in love with it for various reasons but not sure if we can actually squeeze in the 180 they say is their max...
