Not to sound grabby, but...

Not to sound grabby, but...

I got a ton of RSVPs no to my shower, as I've mentioned before. There were something like 55 on the list, and we only have I think 31 coming so far and didn't meet the minimum of 40, and that's after FMIL added 4 more people to the list (who actually said yes).

4 of the nos came from my father's Aunt and 3 cousins. It's his aunt by marriage, and not the side of the family he keeps in contact with, if you can really even say he keeps in contact with the other side. His uncle passed away a few years ago, and we haven't seen nor heard from them since. We were shocked when the Aunt came to my sister's wedding 2 years ago, but her daughters weren't invited.

It sounded like a really convenient story, the mother, my father's aunt, called up on behalf of herself and her daughter's to say that gosh darn it, my shower is the ONE weekend all summer they're going away for a girl's weekend to AC. We were like right, sure it is, but we expected them to say no anyways, so not really a big deal.

But BUT 3 weeks ago or so, one Sunday morning one of the daughter's calls up the house and tells my mom that she couldn't make it (again) but that she really wants to come to the wedding and can't wait, and that she has a gift that she wants to come by with and that she'd call in the next week to find a good time to stop by. So we were like cool, at least she's giving a gift.

But that was in the very very beginning of July. It may have even been end of June! She never called back to stop by, or left a package on the door, or anything. Now we're kinda like what the hell? Was she BS-ing us? But why even put forth the effort to call and say you were going to come by with a gift if you clearly weren't?

Is this a little strange, or are we just over-analyzing again?

I think she was just trying to be nice and never intended to give you a gift

Hmmmm surprisingly, I am inclined to think that she will do the right thing and send a gift. I know I always send a shower gift even if I don't go to the shower.

The calling is a little suspicious, but I'd at least give it till your shower before you give up on her totally. If the shower comes and goes and no gift shows up at your house, then she was a big fat liar liar pants on fire.
